WI plans bake sale
The theme for the regular
June monthly meeting of the
Clinton WI was "Citizenship
and World Affairs" under the
conVenership pf Mrs. Goldwin
Smith. Over 20 members-tnet
in the board room of the
Agriculture Office on
Thursday June 23.
The roll call was well an-
swered by telling a privilege
we enjoy as a Canadian
citizen. Freedom of speech,
freedom of religion, benefits
received by senior citizens
and being able to enjoy a
drink of good pure water were
among the answers given.
The. President, Mrs. W.
Colclough, conducted the
opening exercises, assisted
by the secr-treas., Mrs. C.
Lockhart. Mrs. W. Colclough
and Mrs. C. Elliott will attend
the 80th Anniversary
celebration of the Federated
Women's Institutes of Ontario
to be held in Kitchener on
July 13, 1977. A donation of 50
cents per member was given
toward the Huron West
District project to sponsor a
Korean child. A Tweedsmuir
Village History workshop will
be held on Aug., 17 in St.
George's Anglican Church
Hall in Goderich when
Curators from five counties
will attend.
It was decided to hold a
"Variety and Bake Sale" in
the Council Chambers of the
Town Hall on Friday July 15,
Mrs. J. Grigg will convene
the Bake table, while Mrs. M.
Batkin, and Mrs. A. Groves
will be in charge of the
Variety section of the sale. All
members are asked to assist
with donations of baking or
saleable articles, and price
same if ,possible. If a pick-up
is necessary call either of the
conveners.
Over -night accommodation
is needed for delegates who
will be attending the-' area
convention of the WI which
will be held at the
"Shillelagh". Vanastra on
Sept. 28 and 29, 1977. Anyone
having over -night ac-
commodation for the 28th,
please contact the District
Director, Mrs. C. Elliott.
Mrs. C. Elliott, District
Director of the Clinton branch
gave a very concise report of
the District Annual Con-
vention which was held..in the
Wesley -Willis church,
Clinton, on Monday May 30th.
Mrs. Ivan Wightman,
President of the District of
Huron West chaired the
meeting and welcomed 103
members who attended from
12 branches. She spoke
briefly on the theme 'a
great idea lives on". She
thought that WI members
should be more alert to assist
with, or refute present day
issues, as our Motto is "For
Home and Country".
Mrs. W. ' Colclough of the
local WI welcomed all ladies
to the town of Clinton on
behalf of the Clinton branch,
while Rev. John Oestreicher
welcomed all visiting WI
members to the Wesley -Willis
church. Mrs. L. Marshall,
home economist for Huron
County. stated in her report
that 89 4H Clubs had par-
ticipated in the Spring project.

project will be on "fruit".
Mrs. Harold Biasing of
Newstadt was the fuest
speaker at the afternoon
session. Being provincial
convener of "family and
consumer affairs" she
stressed the importance of all
standing conveners in
planning interesting
programs on all phases of WI
work. Whe said it is most
important to attend meetings
at all levels to keep well in-
formed. A message had been
sent. from the Federated
Women's Institutes of Ontario
to "Her Majesty the Queen"
on the occasion of ther 25
Anniversary as Sovereign of
the British Commonwealth of
Nations. The WI membership
fee ' ill be raised to $2 for
197,8! She stated that there is
a shortage of dentists in
Eastern Canada. It is hoped
that the World Organization
of the WI (A.C.W.W.) will
+soon meet in Cana a.
A splendid display . of
handicrafts by the -
Dungannon ladies attracted,
much attention during the
day. Mrs. E. Radford, Clinton
acted as pianist for the
opening and ' closing exer-
cises, as well as playing
during the afternoon. A group
of ladies from the Goderich
Township WI entertained
with a song, "the quilting
party". An enjoyable noon
luncheon was served by the
United Church Women of the
hos church with the Rev. John
Oestreicher offering suitable
words of blessing. „ , „
Mrs. Graham McNee of
Dungannon was elected the
new president for 1977 and
1978. An invitation was ex-
tended by the Tiger Dunlop
WI to sponsor the District
Annual Convention in 1978,
and accepted. Mrs. Elliott
was thanked for her splendid
coverage of the annual
meeting of the District of
Huron West.
A most educational, and
enlightening paper on
"Uganda", a country that has
been in the eyes of the World
recently, was' very capably
given by Mrs. G. smith.
President Amien of Uganda
was barred- from attending a
meeting of the Com:
monwealth Nations in
England rqcently, because he
is tagged as an evil man. His
country is in utter chaos, as
people are being murdered
Gets better job offer,
Hensall clerk Heil resigns
Wage disagreement and , a
better job offer has led. to
the resignation of 'llensall
Clerk Bob Heil.
Heil presented his
resignation, effective July 31,
to Reeve Harold Knight, June
14, after accepting a position
with the Township of Wain -
fleet and Regional
Municipality of Niagara for a
higher wage.
Heil said he requested a
raise from Hensall council in
January, March, and
May but demands were
rejected. The wage demands
consisted of raises over three
month periods throughout
1977 to total $14,400 by the end
of December, he said. The
clerk of Hensall currently
receives $13,00 per year.
Heil said he received an
offer greater than $14,400
from Wainfleet Township but
refused _to release his new
wage figure.
Heil will be assuming the
duties of deputy clerk -
treasurer for Wainfleet
township August 1 'and will
replace Wainfleet clerk-
" treasurer Austin Miner,
March 1, 1978,
following Miner's retirement.
"It's unfortunate that
council doesn't understand
wage figures," said Heil.
"They see things from the
ratepayers point of view", he
said. Heil said council had no
idea that he would resign
Tuesday.
Council met Wednesday
June 15, to accept Heil's
resignation and advertise for

The next meeting will be
held on July 28 at the
Aus,able Bayfield Con-
servation Park, when the WI
members will entertain
"Grandmother's", and all
members are asked to bring
in ideas for a bus trip in
August.
A tasty lunch was served by
Mrs. F, Cummings and her
committee.
A musical treat
