During Days of Fun
in the Sun, preserve
your precious skin
Before you hit the beaches, pools,
tennis courts, golf courses and boat
docks for a summer of fun, heed this
advice from sun -and -skin experts.
1. Too much sun exposure without
adequate protection can dry out, age,
('verl damage skin.
:ask your doctor or pharmacist to
recommend a sunscreen that protects
you against sunburn and stays on
while you sWti inl 01' perspire in the sun.
Most suns(•reen products Wash off,
requiring frequent reapplication to
maintain protection.

one kveekcnd. Tan gradually, in-
creasing exposure time daily. ['se, a
good sunscreen for protection and
remember the sun is hottest during
the midday hours.
3. The sun reflects off sand and
penetrates water, so even if you think
you're protected by shade or an
umbrella, it's hest to cover up after
sunbathing — towel, robe, hat, etc.
Fair -skinned individuals and others
who are sun -sensitive should he

posure, even with the protection of a
sunscreen.
1. Eyes need special protection
from the surfs powerful ultraviolet
rays. Weal' top) quality sunglasses, not
"funglasses." If the eyes can he seen
through the lenses, you don't have
proper sunglasses.
Grey and green tints are most

perts because they interfere least
with color perception.
5. If you are taking medication,
check with your doctor before sun-
bathing. Some drugs increase sen-
sitivity to light.
Sundress Leads
Summer Fashion
•
The generation gap has vanished —
al hast in terms of slimmer fashion.
This year'.' the sundress returns •
without any age limits. It's as popular
with the tiniest tot as the most
sophisticated adult, according t
Marcia Usatch, fashion director fo
Marsha's Vineyard.
Marcia, whose fashions are styled
for sizes 4 to 14, including pre -teens,
says the favorite .new young sur
fashion is the sizzler — styled with
shoe -string straps and a shirred
bodice.
Prints are sometimes small,
sometimes large, always bright.
Often, a second print is added as a
border or pockets, for extra fashion
fun.
Romantic Edwardian steles also
are lnlportant, says Marcia,
especially in white eyelet fabrics.
'lhey look delicate, but are actually els
easy to car(' for as prints.
The dresses are styled with tr'ic'ks.*
often reserved only For grown-up
girls. For Instance, Marcia noted,
only light or bright colors are used
rear the face.
"They're always more flat -tering,
even for youngsters. "I'he dresses alb
can move into the early fall wast
layered with T -tops or shirts.
