Billy Meek is hosting the show with Al Cherney as the feature at- traction. Billy Meek has performed for over 20 years in Canada. Billy, "The Jovial Scott" has gathered thousands of fans from coast to coast for years on the "Pig and Whistle" TV show. Although TV introduced Billy to a vast audience the majority of viewers are unaware of his many talents, comedian, song and dance man and in- strumentalist. Whether in person or on TV, people of all ages enjoy Billy Meek. Al Cherny, the feature attraction of the evening; is most familiar through his frequent television ap- pearances. His major TV debut was on "Country Hoedown" and he is now into his seventh year as a regular on the Tommy Hunter Show. Gordie Tapp gave the following quote "I've heard a lot of country fiddlers, both sides of the border, but as far as I'm concerned, both musically and presentation wise, none of them can even carry Al's fiddle case. He's the best, Let's face it!". Al is the World Fiddle Champion. Jimmy MacDonald, pianist for "The Pig and Whistle Show", and his orchestra, will provide backup music for the first section of the program as well as the dance music for the remainder of the evening. He is one of the finest in the field of music, and has provided Music of a consistently high quality for over 25 years in the Toronto area. Jimmy MacDo,nald's Music has a most satisfying variety, ranging from pleasantly tuneful "swing" to distinctly rhythmic "rock" and such special dances'as the Waltz, Polka, Latin American, The Alley Cat, the Mexican Hat Dance and the Gay Gordon. "Has your son's college education proved of any value?" asked aneighbor. "Yes, it has," was the reply. "It cured his mother of bragging about him." i CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, JUNE 9, 1977-44A04 LEGION LADY'S AUX 1932 - 1977 The Legion Auxiliary of Clinton's float, depicting their 45th anniversary, won second prize in the Spring Fair parade. Thompson of RR 1, Brucefield when he was found guilty on two charges of unnecessary noise in Clinton Provincial'' Court last Wednesday. Although Thompson did not appear in court, arresting officer Don Shropshall gave evidence: of the April 16 charges. The Thompson vehicle turned out of Haugh Tire and headed north on Victoria - Street, fishtailing and leaving skid marks of some 30 feet. Shropshall stopped Thom- pson in front of the town hall and charged him with un- necessary noise. Thompson continued on, and in a few minutes came out of Ontario Street and Albert Street. According to Shropshall, Thompson said, "If I'm going to be charged with un- necessary noise, I"m going to make it good." He continued to fishtail for another half -block, leaving skid marks of some 80 feet. He was fined $78 for each charge, but Justice of the Peace Gordon Farrish, who was irrtharge in the absence of Judge Hays noted that the second fine should have been higher since it was such a deliberate act. J.P. Farrish officiated over the quiet morning in court with only one person ap- pearing before him, although there were nine charges on the docket. John Shanahan of -142, Joseph Street, Clinton was present in court to plead guilty to a March 26 charge of having open liquor in hisrcar. Trial will be held on July 6. Only moments before Shanahan arrived, J.P. Farrish had issued a bench - warrant for another charge of impaired driving which he receiVed on May 22 in Clinton. Other fines were issued to Leonard De Vries, RR 4 Goderich, who was found guilty of speeding. He was given a $90 fine for travelling 59 mph in a 30 mph zone. The incident occured on April 8 when De Vries was travelling westbound on Huron St., and he was found sppeding by radar. Norman C. McQuaid of North Main St., Seaforth was fined $65 for speeding. He was charged on April 16 when he was travelling at 52 mph on Ontario Street, a 30 mph zone. Students work for library Studentsworking in the region of Waterloo, and Perth, Huron and Wellington counties are helping public libraries expand their service in many different ways. The students are all hired under the Experience '77 program administered by the Ontario Youth Secretariat and coordinated by the Midwesternregional library system. A grant of $29,675 has been received this year to employ a minimum of 20 students. . In Huron county, Bethany Jane Robertson, a local student, will work with two other students in the operation of a Summer Park Library for holiday makers. A mobile library will ' visit campsites and vacation spots along Lake Huron, and make weekly visits to smaller .areas in the north of the county such as Wroxeter and Lakelet. The library will be available to vacationers five days a week for 12 weeks during the summer. Hensall arena tenders delayed Tenders for construction of the Hensall. arena have been extended to June 6, according. to Hensall clerk Bob Heil. Council decided to extend the deadline last week from May 31 to allow contractors more time to prepare their tenders, he said. "There were a couple of contractors who requested the extension because they were only allowed two weeks to prepare their tenders," he said. Hensall Community Centre and Arena Fund Chairman Eric . Luther said the •'fund reached $11,4000 this week. The twelve fund drive routes have been assigned and are active, he said. The new Hensall Com- munity Centre and Arena will require $150,000 of local donations to reach the total cost of $600,000 for the arena. Hensall group . predict election? While recent campaign meetings have indicated that both the Conservatives and Liberals are optimistic about their chances in the upcoming provincial election, one area group has gone one step farther in predicting the outcome. The South Huron Agricultural Society, spon- sors of the Hensall Spring Fair, released their -prize list last week and announced that the event would be opened by MPP Jack Riddell. • The fair will be held on June 21, a couple of weeks after the provincial election.
