The guests were welcomed by Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer assisted by Misses Sherry and Wanda of London. Janice and her mother, Mrs. John Foran were escorted to decorated chairs and Miss Joanne Zemek pinned a corsage on Janice and Sherry pinned one on her mother. Contests were enjoyed and the winner of the lucky plate was Loretta_ Foran and the one on neighbouring towns was won by Bridget Dalton. Sherry read an address of congratulations to Janice and gifts were presented by Theresa Foran and Maria Dalton. Mrs. Foran and Joanne Zemek assisted Janice in opening her gifts. Sherry placed a hat decorated with bows on the bride-to-be's•head and Janice thanked all her friends and relatives for the many gifts. SOCIAL NEWS Mr. Kenneth McDougall returned last Sunday after a two weeks visit with his son, Mr. Allan McDougall, Mrs. McDougall anal Angie at Sudbury. ' Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ball visited last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Dammier at Millbank. Rev. William Craven of Goderich conducted a service last Sunday in St. Mark's Anglican Church. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kirk- connell attended their granddaughters wedding recently. Miss Faye Blake of Brussels married Raymond Peel of Fordwich. Prior to the wedding, Mrs. Kit•kc•onnell attended a bridal shower at the Fordwich Nursing Home and one at St. Michael's church basement in Brussels. Royal held the Sacranient of Holy Baptism for Marcus Calvin Bricker at a private service last Sunday in Knox Presbyterian church,.. Goderich. Marcus is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Bricker of Auburn. Follow low ing the service Mr. and Mrs. Bricker C'hrista and Marc entertained relatives at their home on John Street. CHURCH NEWS Friends and members of St. Mark's Anglican Church here ar.e pleased to learn -of the appointment of Rev. Bren de Vries to New Hamburg and Ayr Parish. His ordination at New Iianihurg'will take place on Sunday evening .June 5 at 7 p.m. in St. George's when the Venerable C.F. Ladd, 13.A.L.Th, Archdeacon of Perth will induct Rev. de Vries as incumbent .of this Parish. On ,lune 12 in Christ Church, Ayr, there will be a sih�iliir service. Ontario Pork Congress set for June 14-16 • The Ontario pork industry - from producer to consumer will be featured at the three day Ontario Pork Congress June 14-16 at the Stratford Fair Grounds. There will be something to interest breeders, producers , and consumers. Breeders' Day, June 14, will feature a sale of top performance tested breeding stock including 30 station tested boars, 28 home tested. boars and 90 home tested bred and open gilts. In the evening _ contestants will compete in a junibr barrow show. June 15 will be Feeder Pig Day, including a show and sale. The last day, June 16, is Market Pig Day. There will be *show and sale of per- formance tested market pigs Vandals were on the loose in the Clinton Cemetery last week, knocked over several monuments, and stole some flowers. Board of Management The Board cif Management of the St. James Church met in the .church hall on June 1 with Rev. Wm. Bennett in the chair. The Rector opened the meeting in prayer and Mabel Middleton, secretary read the minutes of the last meeting. Mabel read the correspondence of,thank you from the Miller family and the Rector read the correspondence also. Edward Wise presented a treasurer's report. The Rector thanked the men for the work that had been done on the new eavestroughs. Ray Wise, Don Middleton and John, and Edward Deeves were the workers. Discussion was held on the annual Galilean Ser- vice to be held in August. The meeting closed in prayer and saying the grace. Kinsmen, Kinettes give $2,189 to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation The Kinsmen and Kinette clubs of Clinton gave nearly '22,200 to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis -Foundation at the District one Kinsmen con- vention held recently in Niagara Falls, The local donation was part of the $11,736.16 given to the Foundation by the 167 Kin- smen and Kinette Clubs in District one. This year's goal was $100,000 and since the Kin- smen and Kinettes have supported Cystic Fibrosis in 1971, the clubs have put in $248,885 to research of the disease which affects the lungs, digestive system, and sweat glands, as well as other fluid producing glands in the body. The Clinton Kinettes donation of $1,000 was the highest of any single Kinette club. In near -by areas, the Goderich Kinsmen gave $1,075, and the Hensall Kinsmen gave $381. In other business, the Clinton Kinsmen learned at their May meeting that they had received two donations totalling $300 for the new grandstand. Mr. Haddy is presently employed as an investment analyst with Crown Life Insurance Company, Toronto. He received his Honour B.A. from York University, Toronto. The club also hired Case Buffinga as the new bookkeeper for khe Kinsmen Raceway, and resolved that every Kinsman work two Sundays at the Raceway this Summer. The club also decided to make Doug Norman and Jim Fitzgerald of Clinton honorary members for outstanding service to the community. Plans are going well for the "100 plus two" beef barbecue to be held June 11 at the arena to raise funds for the new grandstand. The treasurer's statement showed' $1,559,12 in the general account, and $4,112.77 in the trust account. At an earlier meeting of the receway committee, it was learned that the Raceway will have to handle at least $65,000 each race day to break even. Out of the handle, which the club gets eight percent, they must pay $1,440 per day in mutuel clerk wages, $5,000 in Court Constantine L1842 organized a trip on May 26 for a busload of people.
