Senior soccer dub blanked by Rosemary Armstrong The Clinton Soccer Club suffered a humiliating defeat at rthe hands (feet?) of London United in a Second Division League game played on Saturday in London which resulted in a 7-0 decision for United. • Never in my years involved with Clinton Soccer Club has the team played so badly or with so little desire. This just was not what we have come to expect from our soccer team. This year it seemed as if we had the best team ever, but unfortunately there has not been one game when all this talent has got together to show what it can produce as a team. • Hopefully that day will dawn soon as a team cannot go week after week with the minimum number of players turning up, despite half of these being experienced, when, the others are inex- perienced, albeit enthusiastic youngsters. As. it . was on Saturday, Clinton was missing five key players and that plus Uniteds scoring a great goal in the first minute of play, com- pletely upset Clinton's usually cool game. Nothing went right for Clinton from that point on although they did manage to keep the score down to only 2- 0 in the first half. The second half deteriorated quickly with no ball control, missed passes and little desire as United plied Carter (replacing Hellman who was injured early in the game) with constant barrage of'short and seemed to score at will. The afternoon was not a complete waste of time however, as the Clinton spectators enjoyed the acrobatics of the Canadian Air Force Snowbirds aerobatic team who were performing overhead along with an exciting array of old fighter planes, like the Vampire and Spitfire and Vulcan Mark II of the Royal Air Force and many others participating in the London Buffy's Beauties split two weekend games Last Thursday evening, Buffy's Beauties Juvenile girls' ball team travelled to Ripley and a pair of grand slam homeruns in the top of the ninth inning enabled the local beauties to come away with a victory. - Mary Ann Cummings and Susan Parke led the Clinton team with the grand slam- mers. Kelly Colquhoun picked up her second victory in two starts when she came in for relief for Brenda Butler. Karen Bolger started on the mound for Buffy's. The Clinton girls dropped their first game of the season in W.O.A.A. action last Sunday afternoon as they lost a 15-14 decision, to the Wingham Juvenile girls. Clinton opened the scoring in the first inning on a single by Debbie Wise, and a walk drawn by Brenda Ball. Debbie Cook's sacrifice bunt moved .the runners ahead and Susan Parke singled to score Debbie Wise. Clinton girls were shut out until ,the fourth inning while Wingham picked up five runs. In the top of the fifth inning the Clinton gals regained the lead with six runs as Debbie Wise, Debbie Cook, Sharon Thompson, Karen Bolger', Jane Symons and Brenda Butler all scored. The local gals fell behind again in the seventh as Wingham picked up seven more runs to Clinton's one. In the eighth' inning Clinton scored four while Wingham SUPERIOR MEMORIALS ESTABLISHED OVER 50 YEARS FOR- SUMMER INSTALLATION YOUR MEMORIAL SHOULD BE ORDERED NOW Clinton- Seaforth Area Representative MICHAEL FALCONER 153 High Street Clinton 482-9441 Gocierkc?h Area Representative ROBERT MCCALLUM 11 Cambria Road GodMrich 54345 picked up two to remain out in front 14-11. In the top half of the ninth the Clinton bats were booming again -as the locals scored three more times to even the score at 14- 14. In the bottom of the ninth, Wingham needed only one batter to finish off the local gals as Kathy Cruikshank hit a solo homerun .off losing pitcher Kelly Colquhoun to finish the ball game. Debbie Wise led the Clinton hitters with two doubles and two singles in six trips to the plate. Buffy's Beauties travelled to Mitchell on Wednesday night and en- tertain St. Marys at home on Sunday at 8:30. Air Show (the airfield being no more than half a mile from the soccer field). This week, Clinton meets God'rich in a very important game as far as Clinton is concerned. We always do well in this local derby so it will be interesting to see whether the Clinton players can pull themselves up for it, and show us what they can really do. Game time is 6 p.m. on Sunday June 12 at the Arena field. See You There! The players and fans were delighted to see Bill Cantelon at the game on Saturday and wish him speedy recovery from his operation. Haste Ye Back, Bill. In the first half, the Clinton team scored first with David Pullen notching the first goal of the year with Robert Dupee also getting an insurance goal. Only Seaforth came back and scored before the half ended. During the second half, Seaforth tied the score early in the game. Then Robert Dupee tied the game at three all, but with four minutes left, Seaforth out ran the Clirt'ton defenders at centre field and went in and scored to take the game. Although Clinton should have won the game, the score did not indicate the play of the boys and girls. In the first half Bobby Ladd led the team and made several rushes down his right wing only to find no one there to help him out. In the second half the Clinton team played a dif- ferent type of game allowing Seaforth to take the ball and forgetting the wings on their team.
