Horticaltural learns
of flower arranging
Flower arrangements was
the topic at the May meeting
of the Clinton Horticultural
Society. The meeting held
last Wednesday evening in
the town hall, was well at-
tended and Mrs. Barnett
spoke while Miss Mary
Hoyell assisted in the
d`einonstration of flower
arranging.
. A film was shown to
illustrate the right and wrong
way to arrange and Miss
Howell showed how flowers
should be placed to the best
advantage. One flower in a
proper vase can often look
more beautiful than a
crowded bowl.
"Flowers are to the earth
as stars are to the Heaven,"
was stated at the meeting.
In other business, Mrs.
Durst read a poem, "House
for rent." The only rent
charged is bursts of sang
throughout the garden and all
feel that the payment is quite
adequate.
Jean Livermore brought in
a beautiful cactus bloom from
her plant that flowers each
May. This year her plant held
20 large scarlet flowers.
There were also fragile
flowers of our own Clintonia
plant and a pot of blue-eyed
grass.
Door prizes were won by
Florentine Marquis of
Detroit, Blossom Garrow and
Mr. Endenburg.
At the Spring Fair on
Saturday, the Horticultural
Society will have free draws
on a pot of growing flowers
and a floral arrangement o€
cut flowers made by Mary
Epps.
The Junior Gardeners will
have a tractor drawn float in
the Spring Fair parade. called
"The Junior Gardeners and
their unusual container."
The Gorrie , Women's
Institute was host for the May
Birthday party.
The afternoon program
included a fashion show With
fashions from 1880 to 1977.
Mrs. Bob Strong was com-
mentetor for the show and
Mrs. Wilbur Hogg played
music selections related to
. each of the years.
The show brought back
many fond memories to the
residents, and was enjoyed by
everyone. Mrs. J. Ferguson
and Mrs. B. Strong sang a
duet number and led a sing
along of old songs.
Following the program the
celebrants each received a
gift and lunch was served by
the ladies. Mrs. Ritchie ex-
pressed the appreciation of
the residents to the Institute
for the party.
Ed Stiles entertained for
the Thursday afternoon with
an hour of favourite organ
music.

president of the Clinton
Kinsmen, reports that studies
are underway to find a
suitable yet economical plan.
When facilities such as the
Clinton Raceway become
accessible, it is then up to the
handicapped to get out, use
them, enjoy them and show
there is a need for these and
future innovations.
All towns must provide
advanced polling stations
that are accessible to the
handicapped. Alpha assisted
in finding a suitable location
in Goderich. Mr. and Mrs.
George Turton of 319 Huron
Road offered the use of their
home.
At Alpha's May meeting in
the Brussels School, a motion
was passed to investigate the
accessibility of local theatres.
A form letter was also ap-
proved that will be available
to interested "persons or
groups requesting in-
formation on Alpha's ac-
tivities.
The next meeting is
s^heduled for June- 28 at 8
p.m. in the Holmesville
School. Wally Kennedy, CNIB
District Administrator,
London Office, will be the
guest speaker. They realize
this is a busy time of year, but
are hoping for a good turnout.

welcome.
