A crowd of nearly 100 persons gave Conservative candidate Anson McKinley a warm
welcome at a rally in the Town Hall in Clinton last week. The crowd, of all ages, heard Mr.
McKinley say he would fight to retain the town's hospital. (News -Record photo)

FRIDAY & SATURDAY
JUNE 3 - 4
VENUS
(formerly Manhattan)
ticket holders, is scheduled
for Friday, June 10th, on
stage at the Playhouse.
The event, which attracts a
large crowd each year, is
sponsored by the Playhouse
Guild. Guild President, Beth
Jean, anticipates a record
crowd this year, as Guild
members began their part in
the annual subscription drive.
Leo Morningstar, Chair-
man for the subscription
campaign, noted that sales
were already up this year:
probably because of the new
$27, price (actually less than
last year). They offer six
admissions to the theatre,
plus free admission to the
dance for one couple.
Subscription tickets are
now available in a number of
locations: The Wedge,
Clinton; Clinton Commercial
Printers, Clinton; Bartliff
Bakery, Clinton; Dry Dock
Marina Restaurant,
Hayfield; Little Inn,
'Hayfield: The Red Pump,
Bayfield; Bavarian Tavern,
Bayfield; Campbell's of
Goderich, Goderich; and
Redford Hotel, Goderich.
Playhouse tickets are up
50c over last year. Top tickets
are now $5.50 each. The $27
subscription tickets offered
by the Playhouse allow six
admissions at savings of $6.
The tickets can be used for
any regular evening per-
formance during the season.
A record number of sales
was recorded when tickets
went on sale last Tuesday.
Over a thousand tickets left
the rack, reported Paul
Harvey. Playhouse Business
Manager.
Graduation heldfor
Vanastra nursery school
Taking some 26 youngsters
from the ages of two to five to
the zoo in Grand Bend would
seem to be an almost im-
possible task to co-ordinate
but for the or--gan'izers at the
Vanastra Nursery School it is
just part of teaching.
Volunteers Martha Cook,
Katherine Riley and Gertie
Blake along with several
Vanastra and area ladies are
in charge of preparing the
youngsters for kindergarten.
"We push co-operation and
try to teach the children to
follow instructions and learn
to•get along with others," said
Mrs. Blake. The basics such
as letters, colors and num-
bers are also introduced to
the pre-schoolers.
The school which holds
classes each Tuesday and
Thursday morning and runs
from October until the end of
May began last year. It has
been sponsored by the
Christian Church and in its
first year the minister's wife,
Sherry Boursma supervised
the nursery.
Supplies and financial
assistance are given by the
church and parents are
charged $1 a month to send
their youngsters to the school.
Classes ended this week for
the summer and nine
w
students will be moving on to
kindergarten, however many
will return and many more
are hoped to come out for the
fall commencement of
nursery school.
