Clinton News-Record, 1977-05-19, Page 10PAGE 10--CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY. MAY 19. 1977 Council to place parking signs Village Council met in regular session Monday evening, and decided to add more signs on Main Street designating angle parking only along the whole of Main Street. It wag -reported that trucks are left with engines running, Village arena to be rebuilt Approximately 125 people gathered in the Community Centre to discuss the fate of the Bayfield Arena on Wed. evening, May 11. The arena has been con- demned and ordered closed due to several factors in- cluding serious structural faults and insufficient un- derpinning. The meeting was conducted by John Siertsema, chairman of the Community Centre Board. After some discussion, a show of hands indicated the meeting to be in favour of building a new arena rather than repairing the present structure. A proper engineering presentation with pictures and a detailed cost analysis was suggested for a sub- sequent meeting and ways of "i. raising money to rebuild was discussed. Some felt it should be raised by holding functions and others suggested a door to door canvass. Costs of a new structure could reach $400,000, of which three quarters could be funded through grants. Villagesocial, personal notes Some folks use any excuse to blame someone or something for their misfortunes, like the woman who on friday the 13th let a forklift truck get away on her and blamed, not her driving or mishandling of the unit, but blamed the day and the date. She not only had the humiliating experience of letting the unit get out of control, but had to call Ed Gale at the Tank and Tummy Restaurant to release it with the tow truck. (I shan't embarrass the young woman by revealing her identity, however I will say she is an employee of Siddall Fisheries.) Dawna Westlake has in- formed us that the Arthritis jars are now in the business establishments in the Village and will remain until the end of September.
