However, an important contest t() run in conjunction with the match. is of interest to many farm and. home -owners as well. he Farmstead .incl Home Improvement Competition is a project which requires immediate attention from it those who intend to enter. Pritus will he offered for the most improved and - OI' most attractive properties not only ►A in the farming community but in the county's towns and villages as well. Those who have not yet received entry and application forms may pick them up at the offices of the clerks of the municipalities in which they 0 r1,,idc Here are a few.hints which w 111 provide a guide to par- ticipation in the competition: The first step in improving farmsteads and dwellings is general clean up. Dismantle and remove 01d buildings that .ire beyond 'repair: remove trash, useless machinery Lind old vehicles: repair or remove old or .hro Cen-down fences. Application of paint to the. house, farm buildings, nl,ailbox, fences and related structure, adds much *to general appearance. Display of the property owner's name in a prominent location is desirable. Road entrance and driveway, must not he neglected. Attractive en- trances are important as a general first impression. Ncw' plantings Or 1r11 - proving the condition of the shrubbery, trees. flowerheds 4-HAchievemen't days set The Home Economics Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food is again holding 4-H Homemaking Club Achievement Days in Huron County. • This club helped members plan, select and make it garment for leisure wear. Special emphasis was placed on the selection of .style and fabrics for leisure wear, the _ use of commercial patterns 0 and various trims such as lace, eyelet and fringe. Mr's.
