On AprU Oth at the Auburn Community Memorial Hall the Auburn and District Lions Club was formed when 12 enthusiastic citizens decided there was a need in their community for aservice club. Th,e newly elected officers are: President Fred Lmwrence; secretary Bob Ketchabaw: and treasurer James E. Schneider. They were installed by A9 Governor Lloyd Stewart from Mount Forost, assisted by Deputy Governor Ted Heimpel from Mitchell, and Extension Chairman Stewart MacKinnon from Wiarton. The new club will be grouped in a zone made up of clubs from B\yth, 8russe\u, VVing6um` Howick and Palmerston. The Auburn and District Lions Club will be the 37th club in District A9, which extends from Goderich to Ferndale -Lion's Head, and from Meaford to Lake Huron. Lion Charlie Shaw of Blyth Liono, the sponsoring club, was appointed the Guiding Lion, and will assist the new club in its first year of operation. At the next meeting on April z' the complete list of officers will be elected and the time and place of the regular meetings selected. A date will also be chosen for the Charter Night Celebration. treasurers. A letter was read from, Mrs. Eleanor VVhitchord, Ontario Hor- ticultural Society president. The financial statement came from Mr. B.E.88arWe. An In. Memoriam service for the late Mrs. Eleanor Trelfordof' Tara was held. A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation by Mrs Klie of a:Horticulture Service Certificate to Mr. •Roy Bennett of Winghaln in recognition of his work in the District and the Wingham Society. Mr: Bennett thanked Mrs. Klie for the honour bestowecl upon him. Mrs. Klie showed the prize winning slides that had been cntered into competition. The guest speaker of the afternoon was Mrs. Rick Gilbank of Hanover who spoke on the drying of garden flowers, wild flowers and weeds. She had attractive arrangements and bouquets which she had done at her country home near Hanover. Pressed flowers were made into attractive pictures and also fiowers treated in special ways. She also answered many questions about her display. Mrs. K\ie thanked Jackie and presented her with a gift. The 1978 meeting will he hcld at Wingham. Mrs. Audrey Clinton of Hanover thanked the Auburn Society for their dinner and hosting of the 1016 District 8. Special thanks was extended to the decorating committee composed of Mrs. Robert Slater, Mrs. Frances C|ork, Mrs. Robert Arthur and Mrs. Thomas Lawlor. Auburn Variety & Groceteria, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCauley, The Friendly Village Gift Shop, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Slater, Seers restaurant .& Body Shop, Mr. and Mrs. William Seers, Arthur's Furniture Store, Mr. HORTICULTURAL MEETING Auburn Horticultural Society hosted for the first time the annual meeting of District 8 of the Ontario Horticultural Society last Saturday in the Community Memorial Hall. The delegates were welcomed by Mrs. Dorothy Grange, president of the Auburn Society and the registration was in charge of Mrs. Thomas Buggiu, Mrs. Russel 8rind\oy, Mrs. Robert Turner and Mrs. Robert Arthur. The hail was tastefully. decorated • with pots of hanging f\o*ero, and in the windows -and on the stage a garden setting' with white wrought iron yurniture, bird bath, driftwood and sprin,g flowers. The tables were decorated with arrangements of skring Mnwursu\so. Eighty-eight delegates and members were present from Lion's Head to Seaforth along with visiting directors, Mrs. Pauline Richards of District 10, Mrs. Doris Scott of District 16 and Harvey Gerrie of District 7. The dinner was served at 12 noon by the -Auburn Women's Institute. Mrs. William Klie the Hanover society president was inch rge and opened the meeting by the singing of 0 Canada with Mrs. Donald Haines as pianist. Grace was pronounced by the Rev. Earl Sc Jean. The head table guests were introduced by Mts. Klie. They were Mr. and Mrs. Earl St. Jean, Mr, and Mrs. Ross Andrews, Mrs. Dorothy Grange, Mrs. Rus.sel Bray, Mrs. Pauline Richards, Mrs. Doris Scutt, Harvey Gerrie, and Mrs. Rick Gilbank. Welcome to Auburn and greetings were brought by Mr. Ross Andrews from th2 Village Trustee Board. Mrs. Dorothy Grange spoke on behalf of the Auburn Society welcoming all delegates. The president, Mrs.WilliamKlie'epoke of her work duringthe past yar and also of her ten years in District 8 work. The Auburn Society is very grateful to the Auburn store- keepers and business people who donated gifts so generously for this special SOC\mcNFm/8 Funeral services were held recently in Hamilton for the late William Len`p, a former resident of this *Community. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lemp, a funeral director of this village. His wife is the former Mamie Wagner ofAuburn. Mrs. Bonnie Armour and daughter Julie of Waterloo spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jardin and grandmother, Mrs. Elva Straughan. Word was received here of the death of Mrs. Fred Schoell of Detroit. She Was the former Mary Robinson. daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. ArChie Robinson of Hullett Township. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Robertson of Meaford visited last Tuesday with her mother, Mra. Elva Stroughon, her sister Mrs. Thomas Jardin and Mr. Jardin on their way home after being in Honolulu for a two week vacation. Mr. and Mrs. George Haggitt and family of Zurich visited on Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. The Maitland ,River was lined with people Sunday morning to watch the canoe race start at the Auburn park. Miss Carolyn Clark of Goderich visited on Sunday with Miss Laura Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston.
