Fire Chief Gary Middletown
has .described, as "utterly
ridiculous" the actions of
some Exeter residents
following a couple of fire calls
on the weekend, according to
the Exeter Times Advocate.
In both those calls - one to
the Latulippe fire on Huron
Street, west on Sunday and
the other to Victor Knip's on
• Saturday in Osborne
-Township - the drivers of the
four fire department vehicles
had to dodge cars, trucks,
bicycles and pedestrians to
get to their destinations.
Middleton noted that the
drivers and theother
members of the department
had complained about the
interference from the public
and said he felt those com-
plaints were justified.
He said that the fire
department is often plagued
by people who follow them to
fires, but in the two weekend
blazes many people appeared
intent on beating firemen to
the scene.
Crowds who gather at the
fire hall also prevent the
firemen from getting to the
• vehicle and then the trucks
have difficulty getting onto
the road to make their runs.
St. Marys is considering

government program called

The Ontario government

amount of money available to

The Goderich Trotting
Association may forfeit their
nine racing days, according
to the Goderich Signal -Star,
following condemnation of
the grandstand, in hopes of
building a new grandstand
and regaining those dates the
following year.
Members of the trotting
association met with
representatives of the
Ontario Racing Commission
in a closed meeting. last
Tuesday at Town Hall to
discuss alternatives to the
situation and the Ontario

recommendation from the
Goderich group.

racing dates this year and

Mitchell town council
approved an application for a
zoning change.at its meeting
last week, paving the way for
a new resta,prant-motel on
Highway 8, at the western
limits of town, said the

It will be owned and
operated by Alland and Joyce
Scott, who are also
proprietors of a greenhouse
