Skaters get financial aid
The Clinton Figure Skating
Club got a three-way shot in
the arm recently in the way of
financial assistance to aid in
the excellent training
program for the '77 - '78
skating season.
In response to their letters
requesting financial help,
they wish to thank the
following three service clubs
for their generous donations;
The Clinton Kinettes, the
Clinton Kinsmen and the
Clinton Lions amounting to an
$800 total.
Expenses of the Clinton
Figure Skating Club seem to
climb higher and higher each
year. Some of these major
expenses are ice time,
nrnfessional wages, ad-
ministration costs, test day
costs and their own club
competition expenses, in-
cluding mileage fee's for
judges, C.F.S.A. registrations
and Interclub fees - just to
mention a few.
Unless money
making
projects are held often during
the year it is impossible to
balance the budget.
Club parents. don't mind
working on these projects, in
fact it's healthy for the club.
But receiving these donations
from the service clubs
alleviates that "mill stone"
financial burden which often
hangs heavy over the club.
Thank you, Clinton
Kinettes, Kinsmen and Lions!
Recent tests passed were
the following: ". Lori Consitt,
three badges - speed, figures
and free style I; Tracy
Norman, two badges - speed
and jump; Lorilee Robinson,
speed; ' Jennifer Woods,
novice II; Margaret Dupee,
the second Jr. Silver dance
called Rocker; Cheryle
Beane, completing the Jr.
Bronze dances by passing the
Ten 'Fox; Carol Beane,
completing the preliminary
dance set by passing the
swing dance.
Congratulations, skaters.
It's nice to finish up the
season with some more
credits.
Have 'a happy summer
skaters. Hope to see . all one
hundred of you back in the
fall!

There was excellent ice, keens

For entertainment at th,e

add a touch of class, the
'Company of Young Curlers",
led by reverend Black,

Ramblings from the races
By Lois Gibbings
Ackwin, owned by Gord
Rapson of Holmesville, led all
the way to come up with his
first win of the year in 2:10.2
for his 18 year-old trainer -
driver Bill Rapson at London
on Friday. The consistent
seven year-old pacer has also
had three seconds and two
,thirds in six starts in 1977. "
On March 24 at Windsor, El
Sam 0, a seven-year-old
horse by Airliner, lowered his
2:05 pacing record to a 2:03.3
mark when he was first under
the wire with Andy Hardy on
the bike. He won again. in
2:04.3 on Saturday night' for
his owners Richard Burgess
and Joe Dick of Seaforth. He
was then claimed from this
race.
Victor H. Volo was scrat-
ched from his race on March
21 at London. Valleycreek
Cleo was second at Windsor
on March 23:
Randy McLean finished
second with Tide Delight for
Donald Campbell of Goderich
—on --Wednesday- night at
London. Inip Mathers was

Watcher's Pride hasn't
fared too good since being
claimed. She has been last in
both of her two starts at
London.
Granny Mathers was fourth
for the Broken M.. Stables of
Goderich. Gerry Roebuck
was third with Mikes Jimmy
-Lynn. This 12 ,,year-old
Atom tourney
a success
Anyone hoping to curl in this
spiel next year had better get
their name in to the Bonspiel
Committee now!
A team of Seaforth girls
travelled to the Walkerton
Business Girls Spiel on
Saturday. Winning third
prize on the 9:00 draw were
Marlene Roberton, Kay
Sharp, Joan Kennedy and
Marjory Apple. The
Walkerton girls presented a
Hawaiian theme this year
and to add fun to the day for
every rock you hogged,you
had to ick up a paper
banana. The girls with the
most bananas at the end of
the day won a prize — a bunch
of bananas. I understand the
skip, Marlene, provided her
team with a snack for the ride
home. Five hogged - rocks in
two games deserves some
kind of recognition, e`h,
Marlene?
I hope to have some playoff
results for you soon, plus a_
date for our closing Pot Luck
Supper.
