Flats off to the Kinsmen!
Whether or not you are a race
fan, you can't help but admire
their determination and fight
tp give Clinton another
grandstand. Little by little
the "powers that be" seem to
be chipping away at our
image. Losing the Canadian
Forces Base, the overhanging
threat of hospital closure and
now condemnation of the
grandstand.
But this is not the knockout
blow - we didn't celebrate our
Centennial two years ago•to
start a decline into obscurity
before the second two hun-
dred are gone. We aren't all
Kinsmen or Kinettes but let's
give them all the support we
can.

On Monday, March 28, 1977
Mrs. Bertha McLennan
celebrated her 96th birthday
happily with her friends at
Van Damme's Holiday Home
on Ontario Street.
+'+ +
Mrs. Ruth Mulholland of
343 Victoria Street received
the congratulatibns and best
wishes of many relatives and
friends when they.gathered to
celebrate her 80th birthday at
a dinner held on Sunday,
March 27, 1977 in Brucefield
United Church. The well
wishers came from Toronto,
Woodstock, London,
Tavistock and the Clinton
area.
+++
While,. visiting with her
daughter, Mrs. Pauline
Marlatt of James Street, Mrs.
Jennie Greenwood of Bur-
ford, Ontario suffered a heart
attack. Mrs. Marlatt came
into our office specially to tell
us how highly her mother
spoke of the Clinton Hospital
and the attention she received
from doctors and nurses, -
also the prompt service
rendered by the ambulance.

Lastly but. by no means
least - all the townspeople Qf
Clinton wish to share with the
'parents of the twenty-seven
CHSS students their- thank-
fulness ,that their sons and
daughtes returned safely
from near tragedy on the
Canary Islands last Sunday.
While investigations
proceed into determining the
cause of the world's worst air
disaster which followed the
same day at the Tenerife
airport - it has already been
established that one of the
jumbo jets involved had been
re-routed, along with other
aircraft, from Las Palmas,
where the bombing occurred,
to Tenerife.
Tenerife facilities were
overtaxed, control tower
clearances seem to have been
misunderstood by the pilots
concerned and a collision of
two winged giants of tran-
sportation took place,
spewing death along the
runways.
So indirectly it really all
began with an indiscriminate
bombing by those who believe
they had a cause to express at
the expense of others' lives.
This is but another, and
ghastly repetition of the death
and destruction caused by
radicals who choose the
ultimate in violence to blaze
their so-called cause. It
follows similar bombings at
the air ports of La Guardia
•and Tel -Aviv as well as the
constant fear of air hi-
jackings.
In a world where so much
pure plea -sure and con-
venience can' be gaine1.by air
travel - why must peace of
mind, sa-afety apd life itself
be sacrificed to a few
maniacs?

Goderich Twp. okays budget
Goderich township council
accepted the recom-
mendation of the township
recreation' committee at the
last meeting and adopted a
$3,550 budget set up by the
committee. The .budget
allows $4,500 for ad-
ministration, $1,000 for figure
skating, $550 for hockey, $200
for crafts, $200 for softball
and $100 for a picnic.
In other business council
denied a request by Mr. G.
Smith to have part of Plan 4 of
the township secondary plan
, rezoned to permit a rural
residential development. A
presentation for Smith was
made by the engineering firm
of Kiar and Ross and
requested council to pass an
amendment to the plan to
permit the use.
Road superintendent Joe
Potter was instructed to
apply to the province of
Ontario for subsidy on the
extra costs the township was
burdened with for snow
removal this winter. A
ministry memorandum was
sent to the township to
calculate the subsidy and is to
be completed by Potter.
Council filed a request by
M.J. Driver to have his
trailer ca'mp licence renewed
and that he be allowed to
increase the number of sites
in the camp. The request was
filed pending an amendment
to the existing zoning order.
Albert Brall requested
permission to erect a
residence on his property and
commence his fish farming
operation later. Council had
earlier accepted Brall's plans
to make a viable income from
a small section of land by fish
farming and allowed him to
sever the land and put up a
permanent residence. It.
instructed him to commence
his operation before building .
the house however and stood
by that decision when Brall
asked that he be allowed to
build now.
Building permits were
issued to Hugh Lobb fo iad
house addition, d
McPherson for a garage,
Donald Duff for a mobile
home and Harold Kirkconnell
for a -house addition. A
request by Frank Graham to
build a house was held pen-
ding approval of the health
unit.
The" council instructed the
township road superintendent
to call tenders for the supply
and ' spreading of ap-
proximately 16,000 cubic
yards of gravel to be spread
by'June 15. Tenders are to be
opened April 4.
