THURSDAY, MARCH 17. 11):' SOCIAL NEWS • Water, water and more water was the complaint of most households in the village on Saturday -night as most basements were flooded. Son'le furnaces were out before the 'residents knew they had water in their basements. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt returned last Sunday from a bus trip to Florida for two weeks. Several from here attended the Broomball dance at Blyth last Saturday at the new Blyth arena hall. Mrs. Harry Arthur returned on Sunday from a two week's bus trip to Florida. She, was ac- companied by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Keller of Dublin. Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Craig of Lucan visited on Sunday with his father Mr. William J. Craig and his aunt, Mrs. Bell Allen. Congratulations to Miss Ruth Peck, a student at the University of Western Ontario on being the winner of five scholarships. Ruth is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Peck and is a third year student in actuarial mathematics last year. Among the awards she has won are the Edna Jeffrey scholarship for computer - science, the International Timken Fund scholarship for mathematics, a Huron County scholarship, the London Life Actuarial scholarship and the Board of Governors Continuing scholarship. She has written her first exam and has one more year to go to complete her course. When finished she will pursue a career in the insurance field as an actuary. Mr. and Mrs. Peck are well known in the Auburn area having moved here from near Windsor last spring. Mrs. Kenneth 'McDougall visited recently with her brother, Mr. Stewart Toll, Mrs. Toll, Warren and Terry at London. Relative's and friends from Mrs. Stanley McNall, Welland, Mrs_ Ethel Farrow, Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. James Young, Terri and 'Sherri of Glencoe. ,-Mrs. Frances Clark and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock were guests last Thursday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Mel W ebstet at Clinton. Mrs. Bonnie Armour and daughter Julie of Waterloo spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jardin and grandmother, Mrs. Elva Straughan. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hamilton visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Luther Morley of Alsia Craig. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Mustard and daughters of Clinton and Mrs. Ross Gwyn and son Gerrard of Bayfield visited last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Warner Andrews. l -H CLUB The third meeting of the Auburn 1-4-H club was held at the home of Mrs. John Hildebrand. The president, Kim McDowell opened the meeting with the Pledge followed by the minutes read by Carol Seers. The roll call was answered by giving one point to remember when •cut ing and marking a fabric. Spry and Nancy Verbeek were named the telephone committee. The girls named their club -Bobbin Bumblers strikes again. The Pancake Brunch put on by the Members of the Auburn Snowmobile Club was a success last Sunday. Due to the sudden change in weather no other clubs could attend on their machines. Prize winners at the weekly euchre party held in the Auburn Community. We are ,pleased to report that Bob Powell' was able to come home last Thursday after being a patient in Alexandra and Marine Hospital, Goderich. Mrs. Dorothy Grange returned home last week after several weeks holidays spent in the Southern States and Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jardin, Melissa and �,Kyla of Kit- chener visited recently with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jardin and grand- mother, Mrs. Elva Straughan. Recent Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Finnigan, Goderich, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Teichert, Goderich, Mr. and VILLAGE COUNCIL The Village Trustees of Auburn met' in the Town hall last Saturday evening. Chairman Warner Andrews presided. The matter of dogs running at large in the village was discussed and reports received in the process dealing with them Miss Minnie Wagner. Plans were made to attend the London Synodical to be held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Stratford on April 12 and 13. An invitation to attend the Good Friday service at Knox United Church was accepted and a card of thanks was read from the Wagner Family. A donation was made to the Knox Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in memory of the late William Wagner. The study for the evening was taken by Mrs. Frances Clark. The Trustees will receive 20 cents per mile for the use of their cars in looking after Village business. There will tke no allowance for personal time and work for the Village. There was a report that some of the village drains were not working properly, and these will be in- vestigated. It was passed that the bill of $1250.00 for the Blyth District Fire Area, be paid. Some , progress was reported in the matter of changing the street lights. The investigation will con- tinue. Anyone having any suggestions for these, please pass them on to the Trustees. tINITI:I) CHURCH WOMEN The United Church Women held their_annual Family Night last riday evening in. the Sunday school room of the church. Approximately 75 persons enjoyed a pot -luck smorgasbord supper with Unit Two Ladies in charge. Unit Two Ladies planned 0'0 entertainment commencing with a sing song of --old favorite songs led by Mrs. Earl St. Jean. The Young People presented a humorous skit. Those taking part were Marilyn Wightman, Anita Hallam, Sherry Verbeek, Paul Ambrose, David Durnin, Greg Hallam and Andrew Koopmans. Crokinole and scrabble games were enjoyed making an evening of fun and fellowship for both young and old. Smile Baloney is the unvarnished lie laid on so thick you hate it.
