This meeting was sponsored by the News - Record and, as members of the staff, we wish to thank the candidates for supporting our idea and all those who showed their interest by attending.. It was gratifying that your newspaper could reach past the formalitie.i of advertising and reporting and meet you, the 'townspeople, on common ground. We really don't 'oc- cupy an ivory tower on Albert Street, at any time we welcome you to drop in and discuss topics of interest concerning yourselves or the Town in general. We would like to thank the members of council for the use of their Council Room and also our appreciation to the Sarah Hale Chapter of the Clinton I.O.D.E. for the use of the coffee percolator. +++ • Mrs. Margaret Thorndike was confined to hospital for five weeks and is now home under Homecare. Mrs. Thorndike and other patients really enjoyed the twice weekly visits of Walt Webster ,who entertained for them by playing a few songs on his mouth organ. It gave the patients a great lift. +++ The following note was received across our counter perhaps denoting a tinge of homesickness, "A James Street resident sends beautifulcards from Nassau, but reports that the sea is chilly. I think she longs for a look at our• lovely Snowbanks." +++ Messrs. Hal Hartley, Don Symons and John Wise were among over 1,400 delegates representing electric utility commissions from across the province at the • Annual Meeting of the Ontario Municipal Electric Association, who met at the Royal York Hotel, Toronto„ February 28 and March 1. A number of significant issues were discussed which affect consumers, ranging from costing and pricing to the use and conservation of elec- tricity in Ontario. +++ The Heart Fund Drive is officially over. Mrs. Deanna Delve Co-ordinator, dropped into the office to give us the final figure collected, a total., of $1,284.87. March 23 at 2:30 p.m. ++1- The ++The yearly "World Day of Prayer" was held in the Christian Reformed Church last Friday, March 5. Nine churches -participated in the service with Mrs. Martha DeBoer speaking on the theme "Love in Action", Nearly 100 leadies were present and the offering amounted to $100.44. A morning service was held at Huronview. The chapel was filled with 80 residents in attendance. The offering totalled $70.35. St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church will be hosting the service next year. +++ "The Family in the 70's" continues this Sunday evening (March 13) at St. Joseph's Church, James Street, with the topic "Communications Between Parents and Teenagers" being discussed by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mellen and a panel of three teenagers. Larry is a trustee of the London -Middlesex Roman Catholic Separate School Board and his wife, Connie, is .a former C.lin- tonian, a sister of Don Scruton. The panelists in- clude Dave. Cowan, Bill Tillman and Kelly Hurst. Purpose of ' this., adult education series, which, incidentally is open to people of ail faiths, is to build up the Christian family in ourday and age when everyone seems to be tearing it down. +++ Members of the Madeleine Lane Auxiliary met at the home of Mrs. Howard Cowan, Rattenbury Street, last Tuesday evening for the regular meeting. Plans were finalized for the annual rummage sale and the Pie Social, both events coming up shortly. Mrs. Lillian Letherland gave a very interesting reading relating to sacred music and the Royal Family. +++ The Birthday Club is growing - if you haven't registered be sure and phone or drop in and do so. An added advantage of coming into the office is that besides collecting your Birthday Button there is a free sucker to go along with it. While speaking of birthdays we really felt we wanted to mention one in the column for this week - but since the celebrant is a little over -age and over -size for the 12 year cut off we shall just tell you that .`little" Billy Riehl is celebrating a birthday on March F2 and he rates special mention since his agency supplied us with the official buttons for the Birthday Club. ven a cowgirl joined the social gathering at the old teepee during Indian Day festivities at Clinton Public School Tuesday. (News -Record photo) Worship Service was held in Holmesville United Church on Sunday afternoon with Sunday School in the Church Hall. Rev. J. Oestreicher was in charge. The Goderich Township Women's Institute will hold their fifth birthday in the form of .a birthday party at the Holmes'ville United Church, Monday March 14th at 12:30 noon, having a pot- luck lunch. 4H The third meeting of the Cotton Kuties was held March 7 at the home of Mrs. Vera Miller. Achievement Day, will be held May 7, when the girls will do an ,exhibit. Our demonstration and discussion included grain and stay stitching, gathers and darts, and seams in sleepwear. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto. Personals Sorry to report Paul Davey has been in hospital in London having his adenoids removed, but is now home in West Lorne. Mrs. Oriville Blake at- tended the open house held in Seaforth in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas. Wallace's 25th wedding anniversary. Eight old friends of Mrs. Edna Jervis gathered at the Shillelagh in Vanastra for a birthday supper in honour of Edna's 75th birthday, had a nice supper including bir- thday cake. Returned to Mr. and Mrs. Jervis' home for a social time. The community wishes to extend their very best wishes to Mrs. Leo Jervis on her 75th birthday. Receive and consider annual reports of the hospital for the year ended December 31, 1976. 2. Elect 5 governors for a period of 2 years. - 3. Appoint auditors for the ensuing year. 4. Transact all such other business as may properly come before the meeting. Any person, over the age of twenty-one years, who pays to the corporation, fifteen or more days before the annual meeting in any year, a membership fee of five dollars shall be a member of the Corporation for the following twelve months. Th'e Spring Dance of Goderich Township will be held March 12 at the' White Carnation Public speaking at Holmesville School - the winners were: senior winner, David Elliott; junior, Bar- bara Forbes Hensail ISMS learns of ecology By Bertha MacGregor - Mrs. John Soldan presided over the,/ Carmel Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society meeting held on Monday. The meeting was called , by reading a paragraph entitled "Smile". Mrs. Agnes Madge was in charge of the Devotional. Mrs. Soldan took the topic "Ecology and the Missionary". She schooled the group as to the meaning of ecology by talking about changes which man has made in birds who live close to man ; Insects who inad- vertently brought into our localities ; The breeding of a super bee in South America called the "Killer Bee" who could be here in ten years; In a talk on the ' "Great Draught" in the Sahel area of Africa and Ethiopia 1973; poor economical practises were cited as causing the great shortage of water and food. It was the old missionaries in these areas who were best adopted to help handle the situation. There were ten ladies present and one visitor, Mrs. George Walz of Stratford. a life member who 'paid a friendly visit to the group. This part of the meeting concluded by repeating the 23rd Psalm in unison. Business matters attended and closed by repeating The Lord's Prayer. Ladies' Aid 'Mrs. Clarence Volland chaired the meeting for the ladies' ,aid. Some matters of improvement were finalized and ordinary business at- tended. The meeting concluded with the Mizpah Benediction. Personals Mr. Charles Mickle of Hamilton spent the weekend with his mother Mrs. Laird Mickle. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Parker and Mr. and Mrs. Don Dalton and Carla of Seaforth returned from a ' pleasant motor trip to Florida. Queensway welcomes new resident Queensway Nursing Home welcomes a new resident Russel Erratt. Two residents will celebrate birthdays this week were Mrs. Elizabeth Sararus and Isobel Sproat. Visitors during the past week with Vera Lammie were Iva Ridley, Mervyn and Irene Dunn, Greta and Amy Lammie and Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt; Visitors with Clara Feather4on were Keith and Doris Lebnard, of Willowdale, Bill and Vera Parker, Beula Smith, Margaret Larson, Louise and Belle Reid.
