Red. Cross Society
plans local campaign
Clinton and vicinity have
not been asked -to contribute
financially to the Red Cross
for some years. The larger
towns around have had a
yearly appeal for funds.
Clinton -has not.
March is Red Cross month
and a canvass is . therefore
planned the last two weeks of •
March. It is to be hoped the
response will be a generous
one. All the more so since we
have not given t this par-
ticular cause for some time.
During the war years., a
very active Red Cross
association functioned here.
Hundreds of knitted gar-
ments were sent to
headquarters. Red Cross food
parcels which our veterans
know, saved them from semi
starvation or worse , were
provided with money raised
by many activities here.
After the war, -ClintonJ
discontinued Red Cross work
and returned to a Hospital
Auxiliary association. The
annual fund drive for the Red
Cross in Canada continued for
many years as well as an
active Blood Donor clinic.
The latter continues to this
day, headed by the president
of the Women's Auxiliary to
the Legions, Mrs. Gladys
East. Clinton citizens have
contributed generously to this
great cause. The Red Cross is
everywhere, where there is a
need - flood, war, fire, ear-
thquake. it is first on the
scene.
The world would -be a sorry
place without it but it cannot -
do all these things without
funds: Some, people are
unaware ,pf the local work
'done by the Red Cross such as
the teaching of water safety,
serviceg for seniors, first aid
courses, homemaker service,
hospital and Veterans ser-
vices to name but a few.
Bearing all these services
in mind and the fact that after
a lapse of years, Clinton and
area people are being given
an opportunity to help this
great work, let us receive the
'canvassers generously, says
organizer Mrs. F. 'ingland.
Clinton has never failed a
good cause yet, let us see to it
that it doesn't fail the Red
Cross now.
Omega Sorority plans dance
The home of Ann Adams
was the site for the February
22 meeting for Zeta Omega
Beta Sigma Phi. Eight girls
repeated the Opening Ritual.
Recipes were requested
from members for the future
Beta Sigma Phi cookbook, on
dieting. They also heard a
request for pledges toward
the new tennis courts planned
for the high school.
All members decided to
discontinue support to the
overseas foster child and
channel the money . into a
local cause.
Further plans were made
for the upcoming spring
dance, March 12, at the arena
and the sorority social on*
February 26.
Gayle Wise presented a
program of slides taken
throughout Ontario and the
West by local photographers.
Saturday night marked the
date of the successful social
at Ann and Murray Adams'.
Seven couples enjoyed an
evening of cards, crokinole,
and good fun. Marie Mid-
dleton won the prize' for the
highest lady (in cards, that
is) and Bill Marsh won the
prizes for men's high and lone
hands.
A delicious pot luck lunch
was enjoyed by all survivors.
