Fishermen ready for spring.
McLeod Fisheries on the
'north side of the Bayfield
River, is busy stringing nets
in preparation for their
commercial season.
Stringing nets is an art in -
itself and cannot be com-
pared to the factory made
nets. The ones strung by hand
are far superior.
When we visited McLeod
Fisheries, owners Donald and
Kay McLeod were working
on a 21/2 inch nylon mesh, and
were refilling some sideline
already equipped with corks
and leads. When finished and
ready to be set in the wii.ters
of Lake Huron, they will
measure 150 feet in length.
Nets also \Try in mesh size.
When set in the water, the sill
nets hang in a vertical
position with the lead line at
the bottom and the cork line
at the top. These nets are set

This weekend the pee wee's
are hosting an eight team
tournament starting Friday
night at 6:30 p.m. with Grand
Bend meeting Goderich
Township. At 8:30, Bayfield
meets Goderich Steak House.
Saturday, starting dt 8 a.m.
Zurich sleets Toronto
Dominion Bank and at 10
a.m., it's Monkton vs Clinton
Ponies.
The winners and loser play
from 12 noon through to 6
p.m. with the finals starting
on Sunday at 12 noon.
This will be a good weekend
of hockey so lets all get 'out
and support the kids.

The Bayfield novice team
played Zurich on Feb. 10 with
the score of 6-0 for Zurich. On
Feb. 12 Bayfield met Grand
Bend in Zurich with the score
of 2-1 for the Bend.
On Feb. 18, Bayfield met
Grand Bend in Bayfield with
the tie score of 3-3. John
Wooden scored all three goals
with Bill Sinnamon playing a n
excellent game in goal.' He
made some very good saves
and kept his team in the
game.

back out, the are caught
behind the gills; thus the
term,, gill nets.
When the nets are strung.
and made ready for use, they
are laid carefully in wooden
boxes and when fishing
season opens the McLeod
tugs, The "Ferroclad" and
the "W.J. McLeod" will be
ready for business. The nets
are set and•rfter being in the
water usually a day, they are
lifted (taken out of the water
by a puller), the fish are
picked out of the nets and are
filleted at McLeod Fisheries
for their retail store and for
wholesale shipping to points
in Canada and the U.S.A.

A Saving Couple
They were a very saving
old couple and as a'result they
had a beautifully furnished

One day the old lady missed
her husband.
"Joseph where are you?"
she called out.
"I'm resting in the parlor"
