(photo by Mary Chessell) News of Londesboro By Mrs. Bert Shobbrook Berean Unit Meets The Berean Unit of the A UCW held their February meeting at the home of Ida Durnin on Tuesday, Feb 8th. , President Hattie Wood welcomed all and opened the meeting. Alice Davidson was in charge of the Devotions, read several scripture passages and a poem, then led in prayer. A hymn was sung, followed by a reading. 4, The offering' was received, and dedicated, and then 0, Happy Birthday was sung to Nona Piper, Tri Duizer and Alice Davidson. Devotions were closed with a poe', p followed by prayer and, the. singing of a humn. The president then conducted the business, thanking Alice for her devotions. The minutes of the December meeting were'read by secretary Nona Pipe and thank-yous were received from Fern and Nelson McClure, Lloyd Pipe, Erma (Mairs) Robinson, and the Scott Missions. The treasurer's report was given by Dora Shobbrook. The Berean ' Unit's.,_account for 1976 was $460.04. Roll call was answered by eight members paying their fees, and visitor, Addie Honking.' The March meeting has been planned as a work meeting to tie quilts. The ladies are asked to bring a box lunch, coffee to be sup- plied. Hattie Wood and Ida Durnin are to convene the meeting: The meeting which began with a poem and meditation on the Beatitudes, closed with 9 prayer. Lunch was served by Ida Durnin and Hattie Wood. W.I Family Night - I INTI N NEW Separate board renews insuran fly Wilma Oke The Huron -Perth County Rolman Catholic Separate School Board renewed all its insurance policies Monday night at a meeting of the board in Dublin. A presentationwas made by representatives of the • insurance company on recommended changes proposed by Leeson -Killer Ilnsnrance of Stratford to the insurance and finance ' committee of the board. The total package in- creased 18.2.percent over last year, • will amount to $1.4,7.23.98. This will date from February 26, 1977 to October 26, 1977, a period of eight months. This shortened period was approved by the board so that a renewal date in October would give board Members more time to review the insurance port- folio. With the February date the new committee formed in January, and on alternate years possibly containing Carter and Beth Knox judged service, Noma Pice and Joyce Nona Pipe and Vi Burns the Kennedy will be in charge. winners. Mrs. Claire Vincent Sr. visited on Friday night with her mother Mrs. Capling in K itchener. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thompson returned home on Monday from a week's holiday in Florida: On visits to ' Orlando and Tarpon Springs, they were ac- companied by Mr. and Mrs. John Lawrie, Robbie and ,Jennifer of Kitchener. Trustees are insured by -the board when they are, on board business or en ropte to or from it. ;Trustee Ted Geoffrey asked if trustees could be insured on a 24-hour basis rather than just when on business. Insurance representatives from Stratford, David Reed and John Lawson, ,said this was possible but ,td estimate the extra cost it would be. necessary to know what type of work each trustee was employed. The insurance and finance committee will look into this before next renewal date in October. In other business, mileage allowance paid to trustees was increased from 16 cents to 18 cents per mile retroactive to " January 1, 1977. The board will again this year ask the municipalities in Huron and 'Perth to pay the school levies in two in - I.1 s,tallments bn June' 30 and Decelnber15. Trustee David Teahen questioned why municipalities do not pay their school levies on the same dates -they collect their taxes such as Stratford which collects four times a year. Trustee Connolly said he felt all municipalities should be dealt with in the same manner and all pay twice yearly. Jack Lane, superintendent of business, explained° that the board would have to have its budget completed „much earlier than it does pt present in order to get requisitions tout •to municipalities so that they - could pay iri March.
