Barb Hicks is looking into the possibility of forming such -a • group. The meeting, chaired by president Mrs. D. Coventry, heard the treasurer's report read by Miss K. Elliott, and the secretary's report, read by Mrs. Paul Walden, The vanishing Card parties were discussed by convenors Mrs. Davies and Mrs. E. Hinderley, who announced that the initial three tables, scheduled to play at her home on Feb. 9 had already been planned. It was hoped that everyone would support this project by holding their own tea or card party. Slides and pictures of the various activities that . members of the auxiliary are involved in, are to obtained for presentation at the Spring Conference of District 2, Monday, April 25th, in Waterloo. The •various recom- mendations from the Executise meeting, held -in January, were discussed and approved. Mrs. H, Ball reported on the membership drive to be held in May, and Mrs. Davidson reported on the Penny Sale planned for autumn, Sept. 15th. With the Board's per- mission already obtained, the annual Hospital tea will be held, Wednesday, May l 1 th. Details are to be worked out by social convenor, Mrs. Paul Walden. A report on the television rental in the hospital rooms was given by Mrs. M. Corrie. These are well patronized by the patients and $590.26 has been cleared on them. The television rental service for the patients is not a money- making scheme, and entails a great deal of time put in by those in charge. Volunteers are needed for this work. A shower of good books is planned for the March meeting, to supply the library cart, and used -but -recent copies of ,-magazines for the waiting room. Horticultural Society picks new officers ficers The 'annual meeting of the shows, Mrs. Florence Pullen; Clinton .Horticultural Society flower beds, Mrs. Marian was held on the blustery McCann; publicity, Mrs. Bev evening of January 26th at the Williscraft;- social, Mrs. Town Hall with president Helen Davies; membership, Mrs. Ina Mae Durst presiding. Minutes of the 1976 annual meeting were read by Mrs. Marg Allan and ac- cepted, Miss Kathleen Elliot presented the treasurer's report, indicating a bank balance of $647.97. Mrs. Marian McCann reported a membership of 405 - in 1976. Each member received a premium of five Red Matador tulip bulbs Iast fall. Reports of the various committees were presented and accepted. Mrs. McCann noted that expenses for the town flower beds in 1976 totalled $1,761.54. Members contributed over 400 hours of volunteer labour, much of which involved the planting and upkeep of these beds. Miss Margaret Sloman thanked the Society on behalf of the Junior Gardeners for all the support they have received. Mrs. Marian Powell expressed thanks to Mrs. Durst for her excellent leadership over the past year. Following the annual meeting, the 1977 Board of Directors held a short meeting to plan for the for- thcoming year. It was decided to hire Mr. Thoren of Strathroy to complete- the landscaping around the town library. The old rose garden at the former Nurses' Residence will be restored and Mr. Bruinsma -volunteered to look after the pruning of the•bushes. It was also suggested that some flowering shrubs could be planted around the town. This will be dealt with at a later. meeting. Concern was expressed that the hanging- baskets around the town each sum- mer are not being properly looked after, as their ap- pearance deteriorates - as summer progresses. It .was decided to approach the town council about working out a better arrangement for _their care. A motion was passed to dispense with the fair 'booth, *at least for this year, and instead, a• quality floral arrangement, designed by Mrs. Mary Epps will be donated for a free draw. Mrs. Powell asked for program ideas for the coming year. There will be at least two bus trips this summer, details of which will be an- nounced later. The first open meeting of the year will be held on February 23rd in the Town Hall, Clinton. Many' Canadians do not eat properly and some are even suffering from mal- nutrition. UCW to mark 15th anniversary Ontario Street UCW exe.Cutive met on Feb. 8, with the president, Mrs. Cecil Elliott reading the purpose of the UCW, which is to unite all women of the congregation for th.e total mission of the church and provide a medium through which they may express their loyality and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian witness, study , fellowship and service. On January, 1962 the UCW was officially constituted in the United Church of Canada. IrN Ontario Street Church the Inaugural Service was held on Wednesday, January 1.0th, 1962 and commenced with a turkey banquet served by the men of the Board of Stewards to 136 ladies and guests. For the 15th anniversary of the UCW they hope' to combine the three units for a special occasion. Minutes of the annual meeting and the correspondence were read by Mrs. Lawrence Lewis. It was decided to sponsor a foster child again this year. Mrs. Wilfred Parker gave the treasurer's report. The congregation meeting washeld Tuesday, February 15 with a pot -luck supper at 6:30 and buSliness at 7:30. All agreed the new counter top gives a bright new look to the kitchen. A sale of good used clothes is being considered for later this year, and thele are a few skits ready for•unit meetings. They should be helpful in planning future prog>r1s. The Spring Thankoffering service, a joint meeting ,of Wesley -Willis and Ontario_• Street United Churches, will be held in Ontario Street Church, Sunday; April 24th at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will . be' Miss Ann •Rauber .of Stratford. Special music will also be provided. The dater - of the Annual Bazaar Festival 'and tea was set for Sat., Nov. 19, 1977, 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. Mrs. Cecil Elliott read—a- piece from the book, "Bread from My Oven", by Marjorie Parker, entitled Blessings in Disguise. The meeting ended with the president reading the poem, "Just when I need Him, Jesus is near," by Wm. C. Poole. Mrs. Laird Finlayson of RR 3, Kippen sews a straight stitch as home Economist Jane Pengilley of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food looks on. Mrs. Laird was one of about 20 Clinton and area ladies to take a leadership training - course on quilting and sewing Clothes for Leisure last' Wednesday to Friday at Ontario Street and Wesley -Willis churches. (News -Record photo) Omega Sorority plan Irish dance Everyone then enjoyed a nature- film on the Rocky Mountains. After the meeting, pledge training started for' the four new pledges. The first February meeting of the Clinton Zeta Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority discussed initial plans for the • annual St. Patrick's Day formal, March 12 at the arena. Committees were appointed to workout the plans. Ten members attended the meeting, all of whom were envious of the two vacationing in the south. Plans were made for a house party on February 26. The sorority is still collecting saleslips from Zehr's to help finance the purchase of a wheelchair for Huronview. Anyone with such slips, can help by giving them to a sorority member (Ritual of the Jewels chapter), or leaving them with Sharon Carter in Gerrard's.
