The loss was only the Colt s' second setback in their last seven outings while out- scoring the opposition 51 - 29. Their season record stands at 14 victories while dropping 13 decisions. In Milverton, the two teams were deadlocked at 2 - 2 after the'first period, but the Four - Wheel Drivers erupted for three goals in a span of two minutes and four seconds of the second stanza on route to their 11 7 8 win over the Colts. Dick Harrow, Ross Livingston and Eddie Erb added a pair of goals each while solo efforts went to Paul Mitchell and Charlie McDonald. Centre Mike -Anstett and defenseman. Jim Guenther paced the Colts attack with two goals each, while single tallies went to Greg Burns, Derwin Carter, Paul 'Kelly and Danny Colquhoun. .The Four -Wheel Drivers outshot the Colts over the three period span 33 - 25. Playoffs ' will begin on Friday, Feb. 25th when the Colts play host to the Kin- cardine Bulldogs in the first game of the best -of -five series. Game time win. be 8:30 p.m. Cyclones flatten Mustangs • By Bryan, Marriage Last Friday night the Clinton Mustangs lost their bid to regain- possession of first place when the Listowel Cyclones trounced them 11-4. Now the battle for second_ place continues in OHA Jr. hockey action with the New Hamburg Hahns hot on the trail of the Mustangs, trailing by only two points. In last Friday night's game against the Cyclones, the visitors opened up a three goal lead before Clinton's leading scorer Robbie Heard retaliated for the Stangs. Randy Millar narrowed the gap early in the second period with a goal assisted by Heard and Jamie Thompson. Not to be overpowered Listowel replied with . four more goals to end the second period with a score of 7.2. The Mustangs tried in vain in the third period and received a pair of goals, fired by Marl( King anti Steve Cook, while Listowel replied with fair more goals, two of which were short handed. It will not take a miracle to .unseat Listowel of first place, 'and Clinton must win their remaining three game S to stay in front of New Ham- burg. This Friday night the Walkerton Black Hawks make their final visit to Clinton for an 8:30 p.m. game, while on Sunday night the New Hamburg Hahns are in town for that all important game, maybe to decide who finishes second in the league. Gametime for this contest is 7:30p.m. • The game against Port Elgin, last Sunday night was cancelled due to the storm and arrangements have not been made yet to reschedule it. Peewees win series On Tuesday Feb. 8 the Clinton pee wees travelled to Mitchell for the second game of the playoff series, but Mitchell won 6 - 3. So the series is tied one game apiece. Scoring for Clinton was Sean Van Dongen lunassisted, Jim Fleming, assisted by Ian Peck, and Ian Peck assisted by Paul Stephenson. Last Saturday Feb. 12, the Clinton pee wee was hosted. by Mitchell, winning the third game of the series. • Paul Stephenson started the scoring at 11:17 of the first period assisted by Brad Hymers. Scoring the second goal for Clinton was Jim Fleming assisted by Paul Stephenson . Clinton played a strong second period, chalking up three more goals. Sean Van Dongen scored the third goal of the game at 2:08, assisted by Ian Peck., Jim Fleming scored his second goal at 2:50 of the same period, assisted by Paul Stephenson and Jeff Taylor. Sean Van Dongen scored his second goal at 10:53 of the second period, assisted by Mike Taylor. The third period was a scoreless period but the team really worked hard and came out on top by as score of 5 -p. Clinton pee wees will host Seafortfi Saturday at 4 p.m. This will be the first game of the next series. Seaforth Curling news Things are almost back to normal at the Club now. The major task at hand now is the clean-up and preparation for the Men's Spiel sponsored by Rowcliffes on Saturday. Everything should be set to go, however, with no further interruptions. The Huron Perth High -School Curling Competition was field in Exeter last week. ' David Ste. Marie skipped the ,boys' team with Glen Stewart, vice, John Primeau, second And David Underwood lead. Sandra Ruston skipped the girls' team with Jane Ribey, Vicki Ste. Marie and Susan Primeau. Considering that they had not been able to curl for over a month, both teams made a yery good showing and were eliminated fron4the competition only after games with very close scores. Flyers a 3-1 victory . over Toronto - Dominion Bank. After three periods of hockey with the score tied 1-1 on a goal for Clinton by Paul Stephenson, the teams resumed to the ice for two 15 minute stop time periods. The first overtime period remained scoreless before Roorda eventually scored the winner on a solo effort. . Mike and Marilyn Thomas curled in a Mixed Spiel in Goderich with Jack and Jean Kyle. They came home with a consolation prize. Bob and Sharon Wilson, with Bill and Marg Fleming attended a two day Spiel in Brampton. They won one game and lost three but .reported having a good time at the event. The Colt sub -division playoffs between 13A and 13B were held, in Seaforth on Sunday. The Mount Forest team defeated Teeswater to progress to the division playoffs. Up' and coming events for our members are Silver Tankard and Governor General playoffs ion March. The Fleming Mixed Spiel is on March 12th, and don't forget the Invitational two- day Spiel on March 26 and 27. Secretary and test chair- women, Carol Fox laboured long and tedious hours in 'preparation, making many long distance calls to obtain judges, preparing, MdiVidual test sheets, plus a hundred and one other necessary arrangements. . As well as Clinton skaters, there were a few, being tested who belong to neighbouring clubs. The tests 'covered a wide range of training up to and including fiftlfigutes. (News -Record photo) • • Ponies vwin houselea The Clinton Ponies beat Goderich Steakhouse 4-0 to take the first Clinton - Goderich Minor Hockey Championship in the Pee Wee division. The Ponies also ended on top of the league at the, end of the regular season play with some games not completed. The standings were as follows: • In the championship game • played last Sunday, the Ponies were without several players because of illness and bad weather. By Bryan Marriage The Clinton Wildex iNtoms continued dominating their opponents when they defe.ated Mitchell two games to zip in the W.O.A.A. Atome Quarter -Finals by a score of 7-2 last Saturday. Their next opponent, will be either Seaforth or Wingham and will likely start this Friday night at home at 6 p.m. Scott Ducharme lead the local youngsters with a hat trick, while Bobby Dupee had a pair and singles were fired by Mark Cantelon and Randy Marriage. Jeff "Corky" Dupee earned the shutout for the Clinton team; which won the Crown Sports Trophy for Atom Consolation. The game between Fabian Furniture and Sifto Salt to determine the Atom houseleague champions was Cancelled due to poor weather and will be played this Saturday at 1 p.m. through the first period and the Ponies hung on to the one goal lead b'efore opening up in the third period. Randy Marriage got the second goal assisted by Jim Fleming, and Marriage also got the third goal - his second of the game - assisted by Mike Taylor. Brad Forbes got goal number four with about a minute left in the game. Mike Williscraft, the Ponies net minder played a fine game to get the shutout. This was Mike's fourth shutout for the Ponies. Ian Peck led the Ponies scoring with 17 goals and five assists, followed closely by Jim Fleming with 15 goals arid 10 assists, but it was a good team effort which made them a successful team. Daniel , Beland of Montreal won the men's , singles, while Josie , France and Paul Milis of the Preston Skating Club, • took the pairs trophy. Another Canadian couple from Nova Scotia came third in the dance competition. These wins helped Canada earn the Coupe f des Nations Trophy,' as outstanding country in world cham- pionships.
