U.C.W. Meets
The regular UCW of St.
Andrews Church, Kippen met
one week late on January 18
due to weather conditions.
The meeting began with a pot
luck dinner at 6:30 served by
the hostesses Margaret Jones
and Susie Faber. About l�
members attended the din-
ner.
The business meeting
followed with Barbara
Cooper presiding and opened
with ,the word "Welcome".
The various reports were
read and a number of other
items were discussed. It was
decided, to entertain at the
Queensway Nursing Home in
Hensall each' Monday in
February.
The worship was conducted
by Ruby Finlayson with Mary
Broadfoot at the piano.
Frances Kinsman gave the
topic assisted by Susie Faber
and Ida Dickert. The
president thanked everyone
who helped. The meeting
closed with the Mizpah
Benediction in unison.
KIPPEN EAST W.I.
' Kippen East W.I. en-
tertained • the Senior Citizens
Club of Hensall to a dinner in
the Legion Hall on January
19. The Institute Grace was
sung and Mrs. Ross

piano.. •
After dinner, Judy Corn-
wall of London, a '•
representative •of the
Arthritic Society, showed. a
film and gave a most in-
teresting and informative
talk on the different types of
arthritis - and the progress
that has been made since 1949
in, the treatment of the
disease. First must coine'the
diagnosis as to which type of
the disease the patient has,
then the drugs and the
therapy and sometimes •
surgical help. A question
period followed, and the
speaker was thanked by Mrs.
Stewart Pepper. Mrs. Dave
Triebner led in a sing song
with Mrs. Broadfoot ac-
companist. Poems were
given by Mrs. Al Hoggarth
and Mrs. James Drummond.
Mrs. Geo. Ingram and Mrs.
A. Alexander were birthday
girls and the prize for
domestic engineer went to
Percy Campbell.
On, behalf of the Senior
Citizens, Percy Campbell
thanked the ladies for the
invitation and dinner.
Mrs. Vern Alderdice and
Mrs. R. Kinsman will attend
training school January 27
and 28 on quilting. The.
meeting closed. with 0

Don and Lorraine Taylor
have returned from an en-
joyable holiday at Treasure
Island, St. Petersburg. Mr.
and Mrs. Oliver Pryce flew
down with them, and they
joined Bob. and. Willa, who
had motored down earlier.
Even at St. Petersburg the
weather was pretty cool, and.
some people were wearing
fur coats. Business -was-good
for the clothing stores with
the increased demand for
warm coats.
Ed Heard has also returned
from a,vacation in Florida.
Ladie"r of the community
who are interested - In cake
decorating are invited to the
UCW meeting on Feb. 3; when
Mrs. Helen Hoggart of RR 2,
Layfield will demonstrate by

icing several different cakes.
"Scamp" has gone to his
happy hunting grounds. Rev.
Taylor's frisky little dog, who
always carried the mail home
for his 'master, and ac-
companied him on his walks
around the village, died a
week ago. The neighbourhood
children will miss him too.
