The messengers, explorers', ' and CGIT members with their leaders, Mrs. John Radford, Mrs. Teilman Westerhout, Mrs. Tom Duizer, t Mrs. Jim Preszcator and Mrs. John Jewitt, entered in a body and occupied the centre front pews. The choir number, under the' direction ojMrs. Allen Shaddick, was companied by Mrs. Glen McGregor on the organ. A second number was accompanied by Judy Carter and Debbie Westerhout on their guitars. Rev. McDonald then gave the children's story. Kin- dergarten teachers were Mrs. )Bob Peel and Judy Jewitt. ' New ligJits have been placed in the memorial communion cabinet in loving memory of Edward Bell, by his wife, Muriel, and family. Recreation Volleyball *, The Hullett Recreation Committee have started their winter program of volleyball, held at Hullett Central School every Wednesday evening. 41 ouths 13 to 1.8'play from 7:30 8:30 p.m. with adults aking 8:30 to 10:30. Everyone is welcome. 4t 4r WI card party There were seven tables in play at the WI card party on Friday night, Jan. 21st. Winners were: ladies' high, Dora Shobbrook; lone hands, Jessie Jones; low, Beth Knox; men's high, Jim McEwing; lone hands, Ann 4, Overholt, (playing as a man) ; low, Laura Lyon, de (playing as a man) ; most zeros, G'loria McEwing. There will be another partyrin two weeks on Feb. 4th. Marjorie Duizer, Ruth Vincent, Joyce Kennedy; and. Jessie Jones will be in charge. Cheerio Club The Cheerio Club met at the R home of Jewel Cowan on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. Chairman Mary Longman, welcomed all, read a poem, followed by the singing of a hymn. The minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report were read by secretary -treasurer Jewel Cowan. - Get well cards were signed ,ftby all and sent to Ida Townsend and Dorothy Little. Roll call was answered by telling how you spen.t Christmas and New Year's. Ten members and one visitor, Edyth Beacom answered. The draw prize, donated by Mary Longman, was won by Mary Robinson. The February meeting will be t hosted by Group 2 at the home of Mary Robinson on Feb. 16th. The meeting's program then continued with a reading, some riddles and some antecedents by' Jewel. Mary held a contest with prizes going to Edyth Beacom, Laura Lyon, Dora Shobbrook, and Myrtle Fairservice. Edyth Beacom read a fetter for Dorothy Little and then the meeting closed. Some card games were played followed by a lovely lunch served by Jewel and Mary. WI public relations meeting The January WI meeting was held on Thursday, Jan. 20th at 2 p.m. in the hall. The meeting opened with Hattie Wood at the piano. President Dora Shobbrook welcomed all with a thought. For roll call, public relations convenor Beryl Reid, gave out a slip of paper with questions from the Handbook to be answered. The president then read a poem, and the minutes of the last meeting,. the financial report, bills and accounts, were read by secretary - treasurer, Addie Hunking. Correspondence was thank- yous from_ the Deeter family, Mrs.. Harrett Knox, Eileen Clark, Nelson Lear, Joe Shaddick, and Howard Clark; from the 'CAS; and a letter from Miss Jane Pengilley. Marjorie Duizer. and Marjorie Anderson will be attending the Senior Leaders' seminar on quilts on Jan. 27 and 28, at St. Paul's Church, Clinton. The 4-H leaders on sewing will be: no. 1 Hattie Snell and Mary Buffinga; no. 2 Kitty McGregor and Carol Jewitt; no. 3 - Gay Datema and Madelon Sewers. Training sessions will be held at Wesley Willis Church, Clinton on Feb. 10 and 11 and at the board rooms on Saturdays, Feb. 5 and 12. Alice Davidson gave a very interesting report from the Clinton Hospital Auxiliary meeting. Vi Burns reported that' two cards and a plant had been sent.to the sick and shut in. The February meeting will be held on Feb. 9th and will feature a, family night with a potluck supper beginning at 7 p.m. Roll call will 'be a homemade Valentine. Hattie Wood gave the motto and the program continued with, several readings by Mary Robinson and Alice Buchanan. The highlight was the report from Margaret , Taylor from the FWIC she attended last June in Charlottetown whichwas. very interesting. She brought, pictures •and souvenirs to show from the trip. Myrtle Fairservice thanked Margaret and presented her with' a gift. Myrtle then gave a reading. Following the close of the meeting, lunch was served by Alice Davidson, Tri Duizer ,and Hazel Reid. The initiates pictured above left to right are: John Cochrane, Cliff McClipchey, Stan Batt, Bev Sunday School skating .The Sunday School enjoyed a fun day on Friday, after school, when, they were driven to Blyth Arena for an hour of skating. Following the skating, they returned to the church for films, hot dogs, and hot chocolate, served by the Sunday School staff. • Training night A training night was held on Thursday evening for all leaders and representatives from all church groups. Jim Jamieson and Rev. McDonald demonstrated the use of the equipment in the church: the 16 mm projector and the tape recorder. The 16 mm projector and the overhead projector are recent additions to the equipment. Bible study The ladies ' of the com- munity are enjoying their weekly Bible study :and prayer group each Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in the church. Today, Thursday, will be the last study group - meeting until Rev. McDonald returns from holidays. Personals Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shaddick on the birth of their son on Jan. 22nd in Clinton Public Hospital. Todd Benjamin is a brother for Scott. Mr. John Lyons was ad- mitted to Clinton Public Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 16th for appendix surgery. He returned home on Thursday, Jan. 20th. Mr. Lloyd Pipe is taking treatments at Stratford Hospital. 'On Thursday, he visited with Mr. Nelson McClure, who is a patient in Stratford Hospital. Congratulations to Jeffrey Shaddick on successfully passing his actuary exams at the University of Waterloo. Valerie Miller, Clinton, visited on Wednesday with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook. Rev. McDonald was the dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy O'Brian of Zurich on Sunday evening. Miss Lloy Shaddick, Kit- chener, visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick on Saturday. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pipe on Friday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Pipe, Brussels, and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stewart, on Saturday evening. Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hunking were their family, Mr. and Mrs. Toni Duizer; Laurel, Lisa, Stephen and Shannon, Mr. and Mrs. Art Hunking, Todd and Tara, Centralia, and Murray Hunking, when they celebrated Mr. and Mrs. Art Hunl4ing's wedding an- ,niversary. . Mr. and Mrs. Jack Arm- strong attended the 55th wedding anniversary of his cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Murray of St. Columban on Saturday night, at the Seaforth Legion Hall. G.B. MONK George Baron Mori,k, Clinton, died January 17 in Clinton Public Hospital. He was81. He was born December 5, 1895 in Goderich Township to William and Annie (Bur- ness) Monk. He had been a resident of Goderich before 'Moving ' to Clinton seven years ago. He was employed at Sifto Salt Co. until his retirement in 1960. Mr. 'Monk was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Clinton. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Jane McCall (Riley); two daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Mildred) Hartman, Goderich, and Mrs. Bruce (Phyllis) Ryan, Goderich; three stepsons, Alvin Riley, Goderich; Fred Riley, Seaforth; and Bernard Riley, Kitchener; 19 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Robert (Clara) Williams, Goderich. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Edith Vanderburgh;, and one daughter, Mrs. Austin (Evelyn) Hartman. Funeral service was Wednesday, January 19 at the McCallum ' Funeral ' Home with the Rev. E.G. Nelson officiating. Interment was in Maitland Cerneetery, Goderich. Utilities Commission at their first 'meeting of the year last week. Former mayor Don Symons was named secretary for the next two years. The PUC meeting dates were also changed from. the third Tuesday .of every month to the third Monday of every month.
