John Oestreicher. UCW Meets S• The UCW of Holmesville United Church • met in the church hall, Tuesday af- ternoon, Jan. 16. Alice Oor- ter's group, , which was in charge of the meeting, presented a skit, ' well w- ill formed by Phylis Cox, Atice Porter, Jean Ginn and Kay Harris. The skit took a look at the work of the UCW as seen through a crystal ball. Alice Porter read a study chapter from the book "Womenin Canada" followed, by a reading read by Jean Purdue. It Was decided to have the penny contest again with Betty Stover and Isobel Sturdy as captains. . There will be a work meeting for quilting in. February. Roll call will be the payment of fees. The annual church meeting, Jan. 29, will be followed by a potluck lunch. at 12:30. Board of Stewards Meeting, A A meeting of the Holmesville. United Church board of Stewards was held on Wednesday evening, Jan. 19 at 8:30 p.m. After reading e minutes of the previous eeting, members were nformed of the results of the joint meeting between the • ,Stewards and the Session, held on Jan. 12th, at Wesley.: Willis United church. • At that meeting,' Rev. Oestreicher's stipend "'was increased and the secretary's honorarium was also in- creased. ljt was learned that minor repairs to the Manse are to be carried out in the near future. Irvine Tebbutt was elected to serve as treasurer for Holmesville United Church for the next two years, suc- ceeding Miss Elaine Town- send, who resigned after two years of service. A vote of thanks was passed to Elaine for a job well done. The honorarium for the organist and treasurer were reviewed -and increased to be more in line with costs in- curred in serving in these positions. Rey. Oestreicher infornied the Board that all pictures and -negatives have been received from the company which was to prOduce the church directory. Sosts to produce the directory,, locally are being investigated. It was the desire of all present that the directory be completed if at all possible. There being no further business': the meeting was adjourned. They would like to remind all members of our annual meeting to be held Saturday, Jan. 29. A potluck lunch is to be served. Personals We are sorry to hear that •Johnny MacFarlane is in University Hospital. We wish him well. Those in at- tendance at the meeting were Gerry Ginn, Joe Fritzley,- Marion Powell, Gerry Bor- , oath, Grant Stirling, Hazel McCreath and Doug Yeo. Walter and Arnold Bell, Softball coaches, attended as special guests. (Resigned members are • John West- brook and Hugh Lobb.) • Inauguration of the 1977 members to recreation Council. could not take place as there are still two positions unfilled. Firstly on township crest contest - the winning entries 'will be submitted to a local artist, ideas from which will •be incorporated in a design for an official crest. Twelveboys are now registered for township hockey, held on Saturdays 1:30 - 3:00 at Bayfield arena under the helpful supervision of Bill Steenstra. More boys are welcome to go. The last Saturday of each month will be Goderich Township skating parties, the first one this Saturday Jan. 29th 1:30 - .3 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited in this participation, It was generally agreed that we would sponsor three dances again this year. Grant Stirling volunteered to make arrangements with the White Carnation for a spring dance, _set a second date, 'plus '-arrange • a date for a Christmas dance on a Saturday night in Dec. Volleyball for young adults or high school age sees action at the Holmesville school, 7 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. Males or females are welcome to join the group as the class is not yet full. Doug Yeo is in charge and could use a little help. No one begins as an expert so if you have a yen to learn volleyball skills, come and give the group your support. Marion Powell (482-3265) has received several calls of inquiry regarding cross- country skiing, so arrangements are being made. She'll call you if she has your number. Plans for the proposed 1977 recreation budget were laid out as follows: crafts ,- $200, softball - $200, hockey - $550, ptcntc barbecue - $100 and a jump in administration costs amounting to $1,500. This makes a total proposed budget of $2,550. The regtliar meeting date had to be changed again to the third Wednesday of the month. They begin at 8:30 and close by 10:30 p.m. Hazel McCreath volunteered to be the telephone secretary to remind the members prior to each meeting. Mrs. Blake visited with her sister and husband, Mr: and Mrs. Wes' Roe, Seaforth. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Ashton and sons of London visited the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Potter. Donald and Robert stayed with grandma and grandpa Potter until Tuesday.
