feeding a flock of six of the
most beautiful' "fat and
sassy" cardinals she can ever

the den window most of each
day and seem to be unafraid'
of any, strange noises or
quick movements. They
watch your writer at the CB
radio near the window and
are oblivious to any of the
sounds on it.
Maybe they are listening
for the road reports as this
writer is doing, or for a friend
on his or her Vs ay to or from
work on these stormy days.
:There is one thing for certain
though - our feline friend "Cat

kept indoors for the past ten
days, and doesn't seem to
mind.
Thank goodness she doesn't
realize why, as one of those
cardinals would stake more
than a meal for her
sanity. When you have your
"ears on" you can hear the

Opp reports decrease in crime.
Commissioner H.H.
Graham of the Ontario
Provincial Police is pleased
to report that for the' first
time In ten years, the in-
crease in"crime within OPP
jurisdiction was minimal. •
The previous average of a
10 percent increase per Year
for the past 10 years dropped
to 0.7 percent for 1976.
In 1975, there were 61
murders and 32 attempted
murders, while in 1976, there
were 43 murders and 18 at-
tempted murders, a decrease
of 34 percent.
--Nor 'was there any
significant increase in
specific criTinal categories
such as theft, break and
enter, robbery and assault. .
The Commissioner believes
that a meaningful reason for
this change in trend is the
cooperation we are receiving
from the public and the mass
media. More citizens are
becoming, involved in
• assisting with the prevention
of crime. The OPP are
hopeful that this community
effort will continue, enabling
us to look forward to a very
successful fight against
crime in 1977.
On the more than 70,000
miles of highway patrolled by
the OPP, there was a
decrease of 3,036 motor
vehicle collisions during 1976
compared to 1975. The result
was an estimated 185 fewer
persons killed and 4,7`?2 fewer
persons injured 'during the
