Former Hay township reeve Joseph Hoffman died shortly after 6 p.m. as the result of a fall down a stairvkay of his home, south of Zurich. His brother Anthony Jerome Hoffman died shortly after 8:30 p.m. .at Huronview in Clinton. He had been in poor health for ,some time. Joseph Hoffman, aged 60•. was defeated (n the December 6 election by in- cumbent reeve Jack Tinney by about 50 votes. He failed to regain the top post in Hay township by about the same number of votes in 1974. Funerals for both men were held Tuesday, January 11, 1977. •fiensali couple celebrate couple 50th wedding anniversary V Mr. ' and Mrs. Nic Oud, Hensall, celebrated.their 50th wedding anniversary With, relatives, friends and neigh- boursat a dinner at the Pineridge Chalet on January 7th. There was also a reception with dancing to music by the Continentals. Mr. and Mrs. Oud have a family of four: Mrs. Christian (Cora) JeppesonrC•alifornia; Mrs. Nick Blom, Kippen; Ted and Peter Oud,, Kippen; seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. They came from Holland 23 years ago and farmed at RR 3, Kippen before moving to Queen St. Hensall. Mr. and Mrs. Oud received congratulations from Robert McKinley M.P., Joe Clarke and Gov. Gen Leger. At the same time Mr. and Mrs. Nick Blom, Kippen were celebrating their 25th wed- ding anniversary. They wee married in Holland. They lived in Watford and Burgessville before corning to RR 2, Kippen where they took up farming 17 , years ago. They have five daughters: Elizabeth Moir, Kippen, Willy Groothius, Kitchener; Reta, Mary, Annette at home, and one grandchild,Angie Moir. Local obituary Mrs. Marshall R. Stonehouse Ida Myrtle Stonehouse died, after suffering a stroke, at the Wingham and District. Hospital on Tuesday, anuary 11th, 1977. She was he beloved wif • of the late • Marshall Russ .A=" onehouse. Myrtle was ,born March 20, 1904, the datighter of John and Mary (Lawson) Biggin, at Cli.nton,,.Ontario. After the death of her Mother she was adopted, at age 5, by Robert and Evelina (McClinton) Henry and came to lot 34 Concession 8 East Wawanosh Township, where she at- tended the • 9th Line elementary school and Westfield Church. On June 17, 1925, she married Marshall Stonehouse and they lived on his farm, Lot 40, Con. 7 until after his death Feb. 18, 1970. She moved to her mobile home on part of C.R. Coultes' lot' in Belgrave near her former neighbours, Lewis and Verna Cook. She transferred her membership ,from Westfield to the Belgrave United Church and her friendly smile and jolly disposition will be sadly missed by her many friends and relatives. She is survived by her brothers, Maitland Henry, Blyth; Frank Biggin, Stratford; and sisters Mrs. Wm. Temporary entombment was at Wingham Cemetery Chapel with spring burial at Brandon Cemetery, 13elgrave. DON'T MIX Safe driving is a family affair. pr New lecture series set for heritage buffs The Huron .County branch of the Architectural Con- servancy of Ontario has announced the beginning Of its second season of theme speakers which will open at 8:00 p.m. January 27 in the Seaforth Public School. Conservancy organizer Nick Hill explains that the programs offered through last winter proved Such a —success that a similar series is being offered this year. Speakers will"be presented at each of the nextfour monthly meetings 'with the meetings held, the last ThurscJay of each month.• The first speaker will be Peter Stokes, perhaps Ontario's best known restoration,,,.,architect. Mr. Stokes' work includes the restoration of Victoria Hall at Cobourg and his service as primary consultant to the recreation of Upper Canada Village near Cornwall. He will show slides of his work and discuss the many different projects with which he has been involved'. Richard Rodgers of the Ontario Heritage Foundation will speak at the second meeting set to be held at Exeter Public School on Fawcett -Grainger The wedding of Cathryn Marie, ,daughter of Russell and Elizabeth Grainger of RR 2 Zurich and Douglas Bruce, son of Lennard and Betty Fawcett, Townsend Street Clinton, was held on December 11, 1976 in Zurich United Church with Rev. Bruce Guy performing the double ring ceremony. The bride, given in marriage by the parents, 'wore a beautiful gown of French interlock. The V- shape neckline was edged with Swiss guipure lace which also, trimmed the empire waist and bishop sleeves. The A-line . skirt had a- full cathedral -length train edged with matching .lace. The Juliet cap had matching lace with a finger tip silk illusion veil. The bride carried a lovely bouquet of yellow roses and baby mums with trailing ivy. The matron of • honour, Phyllis Romer,sister of the bride, wore a hunter green two piece outfit with ruffled edging on -the cape sleeves, rolled turtle neck and tie belt. She carried a lovely nosegay bouquet of yellow daisies and mums.. • The bridesmaids, Brenda Talbot of Bayfield, friend - of the bride, Nancy Fawcett of Clinton, sister of the groom, and' Karen Erb of Bayfield niece of the bride were dressed identical to the matron of honour. The flowergirl, little Miss Melissa Collins of Mitchell, was gowned sirnilar to 'the pther girls. The ringbearer, Master Aadrew Grainger of Zurich, nephew of the bride, wore a light brown three- piece suit. The groom was attended by Dave Fawcett of Clinton brother of the groom, Allan Keys of Sarnia, friend of the groom, Steve Grainger of Zurich, brother of the bride and Wayne Hartman of Bayfield, friend of groom. The soloist, James. Ramer brother-in-law of the bride, accompanied by Miss Deb Gringerich on the piano and Mrs Ruthann Steckle on the organ, honoured the guests -with three beautiful solos. The mother of the 'bride received the guests in a floor - length mid -blue dress with floral coat and a corsage of yellow roses. The mother of the gtoorn assisted her in a .long lipstick red coat dress with maribu trim and corsage of white baby orchids. The reception was held at Zurich Community Centre where the bride changed to her going away outfit of a brown jumpsuit with an orange patterned shirt. The bride was honoured by numerous showers 'held for her by friends and relatives. Her sister .Phyllis, and sister- in-law organized a surprise shower for her. The ladies of Zurich United Church and Bayfield Community ladies honoured the bride with two .....1.ove_lymiscellaneous showers. Mrs. Leroy O'Brien honoured the bride, her at- tendants and the mothers with a lovely luncheon. The neighbours of the groom, on Townsend St. held an en- joyahle•evening get together. After a trip to Niagara Falls and Sarnia, the couple took up residence in Mississauga where the groom is employed by Gulf Oil of Canada and the bride at Wendy's of Ontario. The Ontario Heritage Foundation is now the primary funding and advisory arm of the Provincial Government in- volved with architectural conservation. Their most recent involvement in Huron was the allocation of some 550,090 toward restoration costs at the • Exeter Town Hall. The third meeting in the series will be held at the Little Inn in Bayfield where guest speaker will be Kenneth Kelly of Heritage Canada. Mr. Kelly will present an ''•illustrated talk on coast to coast involvement n of the Federal Government in restoration and preservation work. The final meeting, also to be held at the Little Inn in Bayfield, will feature guest speaker. Douglas Richards a noted historian, author and lecturer from Unsiversity College at the University of Toronto. Mr. Richards' most recent accomplishment is the publishing of the book "Ontario Towns" which depicts a number of heritage buildings from Huron County.
