Conventry was elected president of the Clinton Public Hospital's Women's Auxialiary for 1977 at Monday, January. 3rd's auxilairy meeting. Other officers elected for the new year ore: Mrs. Ted Davies, past president; Mrs. Lloyd Westlake, 1st vice president; Mrs. Brock Olde, secretary; Miss Kathleen Elliott, treasurer; Mrs. •J. Mrs. Ken Wood, tray favours; Mrs. 'D. Ball, cart staffing; Mrs. D. A. Staddon, cart stocking; Mrs. J. Cochrane, television; Mrs. Frank Fingland, press publicity; Mrs. Earl' Hilde.rley, magazines; Mrs. M. Haniey and Mrs. M. Corrie, library cart; Mrs. Ted Davies, nominations;: ' Mrs. Ralph Davidson, Londesboro, penny sale. Mrs. Ted Davies chaired her last meeting, which began with the -reading of the minutes from the Decerhber meeting by Mrs. B. Olde. The. treasurer's report, read by Mrs. D. Ball, showed a 4 balance of'$2,055,39 at the end of 1976. Committee reports then followed, all showing work well done for the month of December. The monthly meeting was adjournedand the annual - reports commenced. Mrs. Qoug Ball read the treasurers report which included the following receipts: card parties, $258; penny sale, $1939.94; balance from 1975, $1610.37;. donations, etc., $102.00: Total $391Q.91. And the following expenditures; bursaries, $700; hospital cart, $217.29;7, auxiliary pins,' $56; hair- dressing equipment, $84.95; gifts for patients. and baby cup, - National '--Geographic, etc., $142.83; convention, $184.59; registration fee, $49; donation to hospital,' $358; ,sundries, , $62.86, Total: $1855.52. Mrs. B. Olde reported the average attendance of 17 at the meetings. Ten monthly meetings and one executive meeting were held. Cart staffing, tray favours' and cart stocking were well looked after by various organizations of the com- - munity. Mrs. K. Wood. reported $663.11 worth of articles sold on the cart. Mrs. D. Conventry reported• 1 "Opportunity" was the theme of the worship for the New Year's meeting of Varna fbUCW. The hymn "Standing at the Portals" was sung, and Mona Stephenson read a. poem and commentary. Margaret McClymont led in prayer. . Mary Chessell presided for business. Reports .were.read by the secretary, Mpna, Stephenson, and treasurer, Margaret 'Hayter. The year- end financial report showed a busy and successful year. A. 46 $50 dollar donation. is to be sent to Mission Services in 0 London in response to their request for assistance, Members are asked to' bring magazines 'and other light reading "material, bed linens, baby ,clpthes, etc. to the next meeting, and they will be taken to the Mission. -There will be a potluck supper prior to the congregation's annual. meeting on Thursday, Jan. 13. The annual meeting of Huron -Perth Presbyterial - will be 11e1*d in Northside United`'Church, Seaforth',. on Tuesday, Jan. 25. .Guest speakers are Miss Elaine Townshend of Clinton, and Miss Ann Reuber of Strat- ford. Fingland read the report of the nominating committee, thanked Mrs. Ted -Davies for her" two years of fine service and unflagging efforts on behalf of the ..auxiliary, and then called Mrs. Coventry to take- the chair. In new business, it was decided to hold future meetings on the first Monday 'of each month, beginning at 10 a.m., instead of the af- ternoon as in the past. It was moved and seconded that $1,6Q0 be put aside for much needed equipment and renovations for the hospital, leaving a balance of $400 in the account. Mrs. Coventry called fa an '-executive meeting for Monday, January 10, at the home of Mrs. F. They also visited the in- famous prison camp at Dachau where so many Jews were so horribly tortured and executed during the war. It was springtime in the Alps, and the scenery was beautiful and the weather mild, With no. need .for a coat most of the time. Mrs. Taylor's pictures were ex- cellent, and it was very in- teresting. Friday's storm subsided in , time for a successful tree burning party at Stanley Ball Park, with a good crowd in attendance. ' The Recreation. Committee has done a good 'job during the two years since it was organised. Joyce"Dowson has completed her term and Shirley Hill will now be one of the representatives for the Varna area. The annual migration of residents to a warmer climate' for a holiday from all this cold and snow is begin- ning. This will take some time, but is the only way you can have your cheque replaced. Apparently, a bag .of mail for Varna went astray, as other mail from Clinton to Varna is missing,too.
