Brussels Post says the arena
committee has set a goal of
$237,500 to be raised locally
but' pledges from service
clubs and donations of land,
have left about $175,000 as the
goal of the public canvass.
Arena construction should
start as soon as the weather
breaks in the spring.
• A ,group of interested
Mitchell citizens are trying to
establish "Wheel Help", an
organization that will provide
free transit service on a
voluntary basis if the idea
gets rolling, according toa
story in the Mitchell
Advocate.
Wheel Help would provide
short run transportation
service to people in need:
getting drunks home- safely,
bringing Mitchell residents to
and from bus service, getting
people to and from the
Medical Centre.
The new Seaforth council
passed a salary schedule for
themselves, recommended
by the 1976 council, that will
• pay them only for, meetings
they attend, according to a
story in last week's Seaforth
Expositor.
The pay schedule will give
the mayor $75 and the
councillors $45 for each
regular council meeting, and
$15 . for each special council
meeting. They will also get
$10 for each special com-
mittee meeting.
Based on one regular
council meeting and one
committee night each month,
the mayor will receive $1800,
compared to $1600 last year,
and the councillors twill get
$1080 up from $1000.
Winghafn skating en-
thusiasts should be skating in
their arena by early
February, says a story' in the
Wingham Advance -Times
after- the arena floor was
poured last week. The
'concrete will have to dry for
three or four weeks before the
first flooding canbe done.
At present, the Wingham
Figure Skating .Club is using
the ice at Vanastra for
practices. .The Wingham
Ironmen in the Junior `D'
league'are playing their home
games at the Howick Com-
munity Centre. The •minor
teams are using. both Howick
and Lucknow arena for their
home games.
The Legion Massed Pipe
and Drum,Band, with 24
members from Kincardine,
captured the top award lathe
Orange Bowl Parade in
Miami on' New Year's Day,
for the second year in a row.
According to the Kin-
cardine Ne*s, the band,
composed of members, from
seven area pipe and drum
bands, was seen by 350,000
spectators lining the parade
route and about 54 ,million
television viewers.

Township grader snowplow is
cited for his help in getting a
man, who •had received a
-blast of ammonia in the face,
to medical treatment.

MacKay was fixing a leak in
the refrigeration plant of the
Ripley Huron Community
Centre Complex, when a shut
off valve * let go and he
received a blast of, ammonia
in the face: Grader operator
roe Hodgins. was called upon
to plow the five miles of road
leading to Highway 21,
allowing Mr. McKay to be
taken to Kincardine Hospital.
Mr. McKay is now recovering
in Victoria Hospital, London,
but- was able to • receive
temporary treatment in
Kincardine through the help
of the grader operator.
