Golden Radars hear of ALPHA
The Golden Radars Senior
Citizens' Club held their
regular ,meeting in the
Clinton Town -Hall on
January 5th.
President Leona Lockhart
opened the. meeting with 0
Canada, and welcomed all
and 'wished everyone a Happy,
New Year, thanking all who
helped in any way' in
December.
Four new members joined
the club, Mr. and Mrs: Angus
Stephen, and Mr. and Mrs.
Ed: Godkin: They now have 90
members. Any seniors in this
area are wejcome to come
and join.
Flowers were sent to Leona
Lockhart, Cecilia Edgar,
Phyllis Connell, Roy Connell,
Dorothy Frey and Dorothy
Brunsdon. Get.well card was
sent to Mrs. Charlie Nelson in
London Hospital.
Sympathy cards to Mr. and
Mrs. Earn Dale, on the death
of a brother; Mrs. Rose
McAdam on the death of her
sister Mrs. Muriel Jones the
death of her son-in-law ; and
to Mrs. Liela Johnson the
death of her husband Harvey
were also sent.
A donation, to , the Heart
Fund in memory of Harvey
Johnston, a donation to
Cancer Fund in' memory of
D ii othy . Frey were also
approved. 4
It was decided to buy six
new card tables, a coat rack,
and kitchen accessories.
The committee for the next
meeting on January 19th is
Mr. and . Mrs. Chas. Wallis,
Mrs. Lenore Sutherland, and
Mrs. Mae. Gibson.
'Watt Webster a?ted as
chairman, and introduced
Miss Elaine Townshend,. the
guest speaker. She spoke on
disabililty. Their CIub -calls,
themselves .. Alpha Huron,
They started with seven
members, and now have 25,
with average attendance at
their meetings 20. Elaine has
said handicapped people
need some special things, but
one thing 'they do not need is
pity. Ruby Webster thanked
Elaine on behalf of the Golden
Radars.
Lucky door prizes were won
by Leona Lockhart, and Ed
Godkin. The' meeting closed
with the Queen. Eleven tables
of progressive euchre was
enjoyed by all: ladies' high,
Arabell Bushell; low, Irene
Glazier; men's high, Bert
Rowden; low Gordon
Scribbins.
A social hour followed, with
a delicious lunch served by
the committee in charge.
Clintonian club gathers
The Clintonian Club held
their January meeting in the
Clinton town hall recently
with president ,Pearl Cum-
mings opening the meeting
' with a poem', "when Life
begins".
After the secretary's report
.. was read, Viola Lampman
reported ' for the treasurer
and it was learned that 25
house calls, and 16 hospital
calls had been made to sick
and shut-ins. The roll call was
then * answered with the
paying of membership fees.
The annual reports given
showed a very good year for
the club and it was decided to
dispense with lunch for
meeting in the town hall. No
decisions were made,
however, about having card
parties, and it will be
discussed again at • the
February meeting.
Mrs. Cummings then ran
the Dutch Auction,- with
everyone winning an ar-
ticle. Irene Glazier and Mrs.
Lampman are to bring ar-
ticles for the February
Auction.
Auction. Mrs. Lampman also
won the mystery prize.
The program which
followed, consisted. - of
readings by Esther Kendall
and Luella Leppington and
after the close of the meeting,
euchre was enjoyed by all
Ontario St. UCW meets
The January meeting of
afternoon unit of UCW began
at 12:30 ' with a pot -luck
luncheon.
Mrs. E. Brown, Mrs. J.
McCowan, Mrs, B. Olde and
Mrs. Potter gave the worship
service. Hymns were ,sung,
with Mrs. Radford at ' the
piano. Mrs. MacMurray gave
two interesting readings
"Housewife's New Yearn
Resolutions" and "How to
,make a New Years Pie".
Mrs. Vera McGregor, in the
absence of Mrs. Forbes, took
over the business. Roll call

were given And three new
members were welcomed to
the afternoon unit.
Mrs. Mary Ann Kowluz, a
member of the new Huron
Volunteer Bureau, spoke on
assistance they give to
anyone in need such as blind,
handicapped and elderly
persons. The ',.telephone

was repeated to close the
meeting. -

woman dies
MRS. JEAN (CAMPBELL)
1VIcKINLEY
Mrs. Jean 1VIcKinley of
Zurich died in Maitland
Manor Nursing Home on
Monday, January 10 at the
age of 101.
Mrs. McKinley was born
Jean Campbell in McKillop
Township on August 23, 1875.,
She married the late Robert
McKinley and the .couple
moved to take up farming in
Stanley Township.
She is survived by a son,
Campbell RR'1, Zurich, and
a daughter, Mrs. Jack
(Margaret) Scotchmer, RR 3,
Bayfield. Mrs. McKinley is
also survived by four gran-
dchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren,
Funeral services will be
held today, Thursday, from
the Westlake Funeral Home,
Zurich.
Interment is in the Bayfield
Cemetery.

Volunteer program now in Clinton
Through support from the Local.
Initiatives Program .(LIP), the Huron
Volunteer Bureau has opened for
business --through offices located in
facilities at Ontario Street United
Church in Clinton.
Under the direction of project co-.
ordinator Mary Ann Kowbuz the bureau
operates with a,staff of two, Mrs. Cathy
Evans of Bayfield and Mrs. Isobel
MacDonald of-Goderich.
A number of programs are' already
underway including assistance to the
elderly and -or handicapped in filing 1976
income tax returns. The Bureau will
lend such assistance with claims under
$5,000.
The group is also ready to begin an
exercise program for senior citizens..
That project will be launched initially in
Goderich but Miss Kobuz said she hoped
to set up similar programs in other
centers throughout the county as well.
Other projects in the works include a
volunteer reading service for the blind
and friendly visiting for all shut-ins
throughout Huron. Miss Kowbuz said the
Bureau would also consider individual
requests for specialized problems such
as drivers to and from hospital out-
patient clinics.
The Huron Volunteer Bureau is open
for business between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30
p.m. Monday through Friday and may
be reached at 482-3037.

Holstein cattle were tran-
sported by chartered jet from
Toronto International Airport.
at'the end of 1976, to Haiti as a
special Christmas gift from
Canada and the Rotary clubs
of Central Ontario.

to see this first shipment of
Holstein cattle leave, for
Haiti..
' The project, which cost
$50,000 was financed by the 57
,Rotary clubs of Central
Ontario and assisted by the
Canadian International
Development- Age-ncy
(CIDA).
The Holsteins , were: pur-
chased through funds raised
by the Rotary clubs and
donations from students at
the Kemptville College of
Agricultural Technology.
Some of the cattle were
donated by Ontario farmers.
The cattle will be used to
stimulate the dairy industry
In Haiti. 'Haiti currently
imports about 30 million' litres
of milk each year.
The Haitian dairy industry
now produces only five
percent of the domestic need.
' The 100 Holstein heifers, 12
bulls and some frozen semen
from Ontario will be
delivered to seven areas of
Haiti to be used for both
production and educational
purposes,
