Goderich Twp. rec. news
A roaring fire in the huge
fireplace at White Carnation
beckoned the.liwd to a coZy
congenial atmosphere on
Friday Dec. 3rd ' when
Goderich Township coup-
oilmen, road crews,
recreation council and their
wives were entertained to an
ever tasty smorgasbord
tury='41lnner, compliments
of the owners of White Car-
nation.
An evening' such as this
makes all those extra hours
spent on council or township
work seem worthwhile.
Reeve Gerry Ginn and his
wife - Jean made excellent
hosts as usual.
Gerry thanked his coun-
cilmen and all co-workers for
"'their year's support in the
township work. Each
member of council road crew
and recreation were allowed
a few minutes tack finalizing
the year with a "good time by
all". Those speaking were
Gerry Ginn, Grant Stirling,
Garnet Wright, Jake Reder,
Joe Fritzley, Robin Thom-
pson, Ben Whitely, Joe
Potter, Graydon Neal, John
Alexander, John. Westbrooke,
Hazel McCreath and Marion
Powell.
Winners of the Goderich
Township crest contest were
announced.
No entries were received in
the adult class, which aw s
disappointing. However* 50
entries were judged in the
juniors class and the
following names were the
winners: first prize, Douglas
Moffat; second prize, David
Lobb; third prize, Jane
Perrott; Fourth prize, Cheryl
Thompson; fifth prize, Dave
Johnston; sizth, Scott Wilson.
There were four honourable
mentions, Lynn Hudson, Paul
Hartman, Sheri Lee Chouiner
and Scott Bell.
Because the recreation
council had sponsored the
crest contest, the committee
discovered that over half the
entries were sport oriented
rather than an overall
township orientation. The
crest committee felt that the
children had misinterpreted
the idea for a township crest.
However there are good ideas
incorporated in the winning
entries which will be used in
,an official crest.
At 9:30 p.m, the musicians,
Star Trek were set up for the
township Christmas dance
and the festive looking rooms
filled ti) capacity with a
friendly neighbourhood
crowd.
Prize winners and the
donors were as follows: door
prizes 1 Earl Schilbe - a $10
shopping voucher from Zehrs
Food Store; 2 Mrs. Reg Ball -
a basket of apples from
Clayton Laithwaite, local
frutgrower. Spot prize
winners were: Gerry Ginn
and Millie Lobb won a prize
donated by Harold Lobb and
Son 'Machinery; Mr. Gros and
Mrs. Garnet Wright - a prize
from White Carnation; Mr.
and Mrs. Stan Mcllwain won
a prize donated by George
Wraith Machinery; Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Fritzley won a prize
donated by White Carnation;
and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brand
won a prize given by Ray
Potter and Sons Farm
Equipment.
The recreation council
hopes ' everyone enjoyed
himself, they congratulate
the many winners and also
wish to thank the several
township businesses for
donating the prizes. -by
Audrey Middleton.
