A correspondent from St. Marys says: -It
is quite evident that something will have to
be done to boom trade i0 this teen, or we
shall have to take a backseat altogether.
There is not one tenth of the grain and pro-
duce coming into this market to -day that
there was two or three years ago, and there
is no uee trying to hide the fact any longer.
The merchants are feeling it seriously, and
and many of them are not slow iu pointing
mit the cause. Surely there is capital and
energy enough among the business men of
St. Marys to carry out any enterprise that is
requisite to secure the trade of the sari ound-
iug country. London, Stratford, Mitchell,
Exeter and evien Granton are fast monopol-
izing the lucrative trade that rightly belongs
to the Stone Town. How mueh longer shall
this sort of thing be allowed to continue

Hensall, ifr. Jas. Cock -vane, of the town line,
Stanley, had a narrow escape from being
gored to death. It apemen that while going
along the road the animal, unexpectedly
turned on him, throwing himdown and
bruising him severely; but fortunately some
young cattle drew the attention of the bull,
thus enabling his vietitn to crawl through
the fence into a field.

Farquhar.
To the Editor of the Times.
DEAR Sin. -I noticed in the last issue of
your jeurnal, that you had found a bonanza,
in the shape of a live correspondent from
Farquhar, who his undertaken the task of
enlightening your readers on what he calls a
rumpus -over the Farquhar poet -office.. Now,
Sir, I have not intelligence enough to descern
what our learned correspondent min mean
wheu he says there has been a rnmpus. It
is a fact that Mr. Hay did purchase the Far-
quhar stoie from Mr. Gardiner, but Mr.
Clarke was post.master then, anti for three
months after he occupied it, and how Mr.
Gardiner could promise to keep the office irt
Mr. Hay's store when he had nothing what-
ever to do with It, except that he was Mr.
Claeke's deputy, is a problem 1 cannot solve;
any more than bee the iodignation said to be
expressed by the people. Mr. 'Gardiner is
°recline, a store in Farquhar, but has not, up
to the present time, ever, said that be intend-
ed to remove the post -office; but Mr. Hay,
it seems, cen suatll a mouse a long way off,
and knowing that he was not using err. Gar-
diner courteously, or justly, naturally came
to the conclusion that the office would be
talcen from his store, and got up this cele-
ated petition, tnisrepresentiag the truth,
and make the people, what he calls indig-
nant, by inducing there to believe that Mr.
Gardiner hedemade teese }tremens to him,
and now was te take trom him what he had
purchased. Now, Mr. Gardiner did not pro-
mise Mr. Hay the office, tor tvas it ever
mentional
ed in the se 0( 1110 store; but after
Mt. Gardiner was appeinied P. M.. be ap-

P. M.. IVA has run the office on Isis own

Inepeetor investigates the cue, and when
that three place all the indignation will be
gone. I feel satisfied that there is not any
one, who knows Mt, Gardiner, will deribt his
weal when he emphatically deuies the met-
representatiou in petition and otherwise,
which M e Hay is rising to °Mein sympathy
for himeelf, Hoping that jestiee end truth
Will 'prevail, end that all interested will in-
