Last Sunday night, the
Clinton Mustangs literally
stormed into Listowel 20
minutes before game time
and skated off with their
seventh victory against one
loss this season.
The visiting Mustangs
handed Listowel their first
loss of the Junior "C"' season
in a nip and tuck battle that
ended 8-4.
The 'Slangs, who arrived
late due to -. inclement
weather, had their warm-up
shortened and as a result,
started the game off slowly.
At the halfway mark of the.
first period Listowel opened
the scoring on a screen shot
from the stick of Paul Ber-
feltz. Outstanding goalten-
ding by Clinton's Mark
Nelson and Listowers Kevin
Newbigging kept the of-
fensive power of both teams
scoreless for the remainder of
the first stanza.
However, Clinton sharp-
shooters came to life in the
second period when Randy
Millar and Ken Robinson
dented the twine for the
'Stangs with assists going to
Robbie Heard on both goals.
Both the goaltenders were
extremely sharp again in the
second period and as a result,
the "Stangs came off for their
final rest holding .a one goal
lead.
In the third period. poor

officiating kept the Mustangs
short handed from the three
minute mark, With Don
dson off for a hooking

is first shorthanded,goal of
the evening and five minutes
later with Ron Sowerby off
for a major five minute high
sticking infraction, Heard
gave Clinton a 4 -1 lead firing
in Tian MacLean's rebound.
Incidently, the Mustangs
played their finest shor-
thanded hockey of the year as
they were continually
carrying the play to Listowel.
With Sowerby still in the
penalty box, the Mustang
penalty killers ran out of gas
and Listowel notched a power-
play goal with only eight
seconds left in Sowerby's
penalty, only to -have Pete
Thompson return the 'Stangs
three goal lead on a super
individual ,, of fort by splitting
the defense at the 13:30 mark.
Two minutes later with
Robbie Heard having a well
deserved rest in the penalty
box, the Cyclones notched
another power play goal and
took only thirty seconds to
score again to pull within one
goal of the 'Stangs for the
remaining four minutes.
As previously mentioned

Clinton coach Bili Weber,
counteracted with Robinson,
Heard and Millar, and
Robinson won the faceoff and
put the puck on Heard's stick
who caught the speedy
centreman, Robinson, flying
up the left side and put him,in
the clear with an empty net to
round off the game, Clinton 6- -
Listowel 4.
These same two teams do
battle this coming Friday ,
night in the Clinton arena.
Game time is 8:30 p.m. The
Mustang victory nails down
first place for Clinton, while
Listowel remains in third
place behind Kincardine
three points behind with a
game in hand.
A Mustang victory this
Friday night is a most for
Clinton if they wish to retain
first place and they visit third
place New Hamburg Hahns
on Sunday evening in New
Hamburg.

The Fish and Game Ban-

Palmerston.. The second
period proved to be the

Both - Clinton goals were
fired from the stick 'of Steve
Lobb.
Rookie goaltenders Bobby
Thompson and Steve Wilson
were extremely sharp in the
first and third periods.
The Clinton Lions Midgets
dropped a squeaker as they
were defeated by Wingham
by a score of 2-0.
The Clinton boys missed
several opportunities to tie
