meeting on Monday, the
Huron County Board of
education supported the
recorncnendation of. Director
of Education D.L. Cochrane
that permission be granted to
advertise a Royal Dutch
Airlines (K,L,M• student
tour. of Europe in the County
Secondary Schools, _ - L.
Defaan, a teacher ,at South
Huron District High School in.
Exeter, had requested such
authorization.
During the spring break of
1976, K.L.M. sponsored and
organized a nine -day student
tour which took students
through parts of Germany.
Belgium and Holland. Among
the highlights of that tour
were trips through the Black
Forest and Rhine Valley,
visits to medieval castles and
'city ramparts, as well as
items of special interest to
technical students, nantely,
visits to the Philips electrxpnic
plant in Eindhoven, the.
Mercedes-Benz plant in
Germany, shipyards in
Rotterdam, and the Delta
waterworks plan in South-
western Holland.
Schools from the Tillson-
burg-Delhi area participated
in this 1976 tour.
The Board also authorized
three other school excursions

cursion of 4 students from
Usborne Central School to
visit Montreal and Quebec
City between May 16 and May
19 next year. Community and
parental discussions will now
beheld on the subject to set
specific details which are to
be brought back to the board
for final approval.
The trip is planned because
the Quebec City an Montreal
area is closely related to.
Grade seven and eight
Geography. History and
French programs and the
school staff felt that first
hand experience would
reinforce material taught in
the past and material to be
taught in future.
Costs will be determined
when the matter comes back
before the board.
These three girls may become household items in July of
1977 as this picture may well be •bi ng in thousands of kit-
chens across Canada. The picture is in the Canadian Girl
Guide 1977 calendar and the girls are (left to right) Lori
Jewell of the First Goderich Guide Company, and Marianne
Menzies and Carolyn Wood of the Second Clinton Guide
Company. The picture which is used for the mouth of July
depicts the girls making a twine bracelet similar to the one
on the wrist of Lori. Lori and Carolyn each have a bracelet
and they are making one for Marianne. The picture is en-
titled "Co-operation" and was taken at the Conestoga Swim
and Sall Camp during the summer of 1975.
150 attend WI Dashwood rally
The 25th annual. Huron
County Rally of the Women's
Institutes was held on
Monday in the Dashwood
Community Centre with
nearly 150 present from all
over the County. The
president of Huron South,
Mrs. Roylance Westcott RR 3
Exeter presided for the day
long session.
After the opening exer-
cises, Mrs. Ray Rader,
president of the Dashwood
W.I welcomed everyone.
Greetings were brought from
Huron Est by Mrs. W.
Freeman and from Huron
West by Mrs. Ivan Wightman.
The minutes were accepted
as read by the secretary Mrs.
James Armstrong. She also
gave the financial statement.
The District Secretaries
gave their reports, East
Huron reported 11 branches
with 276 members; Huron
West, Mrs. Richard
Buchanan, 12 branches and
435 members; and Huron
South, Mrs. Lloyd Bailan-
tynei 9 branches with 310
members.
The report of the Historical
Society was given by Mrs.
Mervyn Batkin stating that
four general meetings had
been held well attended. Mrs.
Carl Johnston, representing
Huron County Rally as a
member of the steering
committee of the Huron Perth
District Health Council,
spoke on the work that the
committee had been doing.
Kippen Branch presented
an entertaining skit.
Greetings were brought from
the Federated Women's
Institutes of Ontario by the
Board Directors, Mrs.
Gordon Papple and Mrs.
Howard Wallace, and Mrs.
Wallace Laidlaw, president of
the London Area.
Bruce Heath, director of
the Huron County Children's
Aid Society reported on the
use of the Bursary which all
Branches had supported. On
his advice, there will be no
call for the funding this year
as part has been paid back by
former recipients of the
bursary.
Mr. Heath thanked the
delegates for their interest in
helping a ward of the Society
' ry higher learning.
The afternoon session
opened with 0 Canada and a
sing -song led by members of
the Elimviile branch.
Guest speaker was Mrs.
Kenneth Johns of Exeter. She
wa s one of the founders of the
County Rally and the Huron
County Scholarship. She told
the history of the rally for the
oast 25 years
Plans were discussed re the
International Plowing Match
to be held in Huron County in
1978 and the part the
Women's Institutes could do
to make it a special week.
Many plans came forth but it
was left with a special
committee of president and
vice-presidents of the three
districts.

taken part and Mrs. Freeman
gave the invttidn ` to hold
next year's rally in Huron
