The London team is not only the London Mosquito Champions, but also the Ontario Mosquito Champions. Although the Huron team did not contain all of the regular, players on Saturday, they still put up a fine per- formance. The London boys started the game in great style and soon opened the scoring, but the 'country boys' came right back only to find the London goalie in top form. It was Mike Telford of Bayfield who finally beat him just before half time to tie the score 1.1. This put new life into the Flyers in the second half and Phillip Grace of Goderich got goal number two for Huron. The London boys never got back on track after this, and the big boot of Scott Bell., Clinton, got to work and banged in two goals. Greg Ryan, St. Columban, got goal number 5 to make it a 5 - 1 meeting. The Flyers' record in cup and exhibition play is as follows: nine wins and two defeats; 38 goals for and 15 goals against. In a rough, tough and literally scrappy game, which should never have been played in the first place due to the non-availability of a qualified referee, Clinton came off second best in the rough contest ending up with five injured Mayers - one requiring hospital treatment. Both teams were equally at fault for taking advantage of the non -carded and inef- fectual referee, turning the game into a shouting, pushing and kicking match instead of the hand close contest ex- pected from these two teams. The referee showed no control over the rough play and allowed several bad fouls to go unchecked early in the game, thus setting the stage for the poor calibre of play for the entire game. Victor Kennedy, who played a strong game, was brought down inside the penalty area by two defen- ders, . but no penalty was awarded. Kennedy was sent off for arguing too heatedly with the referee. Clark, for Clinton, had already been sent off 10 minutes earlier for the same -infraction. In defense of these two players, it must be said that although the referee was correct in sending them off; it would never have happened if the official had taken control of the game from tile start. Clinton plays its final game this Sunday at 3 p.m. against London German Canadians at the Clinton arena. Winners °of this week's pink draw were Brian Reeves and Don Armstrong. Don Armstrong, Who was injured in the Goderich game, would like to take this op- portunity to wish the team all the very best for the future as he announces his retirement from active participation in the game after 25 years as a player.
