Pashwood last Friday'
evening the Colts scored
three unanswered runs in the
ninth inning to break a 6-6 tie,
to win the Huron -Perth
championship.
Again, Dashwood broke out
on top with a second inning
run on a walk and two singles.
The Celts came galloping
back with four -big runs in the
third. Paul Bartliff, Doc
Miller and Stew Mustard all
singled with Mustard's single
scoring Bartliff with the
C'olt's first run. After Dan
Colquhoungrounded out,
Greg Butler cracked out a
three run homer to give the
Colts a 4-1 lead, but the Tigers
came back"in their half of the
third with three runs off Colt
hurler, Stew Mustard. Jim
Guenther collected three
RBI's with a three run homer.
The Colts again grabbed
the lead 5-4 in the f: �, a in

The Tigers came- roaring

to take the lead. At this point,

Mark Nicholson took over
on the mound after Dan
Colquhoun was injured
during his first time at bat.
Mark finished the game,
allowing five hits and striking
-out 19 Stephen batters.
Clinton batters chalked up
• 22 hits throughout their nine
at bats. Steve Cook had five
hits in six at bats, four singles
and a triple. Dean Ryan had
four hits - three singles and a
double.
Clinton's next game is
unknown as of yet, but will be
agaii:st Listowel for the
W.O.A.A. Jr. Grand Cham-
pionship and also the O.B.A.
playoffs will be starting this
weekend or next.

Mexico getting closer
for I±iuron Flyers
The Huron Flyers broke the
Toronto Windsor monopoly to
become the first team outside
these .two cities to represent
Ontario in the vaster finals
of the Border Cup run by the
Michigan Junior Soccer
Association.
On Thursday, August 19,
Stratford came up against the
Huron boys and went , away
the losers by a score of 4-0.
The Flyers withs-tood an
early attack by Stratford and
then started to mount attack
after attack and finally in the
23rd minute of the game.
Dave Murray, St. Columban,
scored the first goal. The
score at half-time was 1-0 for
Huron.
Once again it was Dave
Murray and Greg Ryan, both
from St. Colurnban, who put
the Stratford defence into
panic as they combined on the
left wing. It was one of these
combinations that led to the
second goal at, the 51 minute
mark.
Billy Garrick of Seaforth,
playing his first game for the
Flyers after recovering from
pneumonia, headed a fine
cross from Dave Murray into
Vanaslra Gun
Manfred Dierolf and Bill
Stewart, both of Goderich
were the top marksmen at the
Vanastra trap shoot on
Tuesday, August 17. While
they both shot perfect scores
of ?5, the were M1azriost
matched by. Greg Ftitr ;of
Goderich, Jack Mills of
Guelph and John Hassel of
Goderich who all hit 24 of the
25 traps.
Other high scorers were*
Harrison Schock of Zurich,
Jeff Darling of Exeter, and
Murray East of Clinton who
hit 23, while Mery Batkin of
Clinton, Jack Gilbert of
Goderich and Jim Caldwell of
Kippen shot 22.
Paul Stanley of Clinton hit
21 of the traps, while Ashley
Gilbert of .Goderich, Bili
McGregor of Kippen and Bill
Thompson of Clinton shot
scores of 20. Tom Allen of
Londesboro followed, hitting
the back of the Stratford net.
The, big boot of Scott Bell.
Clinton latched onto a loose
ball at the 67 minute mark to
make it 3:0 for Clinton.
Dave Murray put the icing
on the cake with just a minute
left in the game, as he drove
the ball: home for his second
goal of the game.
Now the boys have to wait
to see who their opponents
are in the quarter finals. but
'they will remain active as
they play in the Guelph
Tournament on Saturday.
August 28. They meet
Waterloo, last year's win-
ners, in the first round.
A very special thanks to
Cleo Colquhoun and the girls

up their game on Thursday so
that the boys could play on
that particular evening.

winning silver medals in the
Canadian Track and Field
meet in Edmonton. Both
these boys ' have brothers
playing for the Huron Flyers.

Potter of Goderich and Paul
Giles of London shot scores of

Dale Meerburg of Forest
and George Giles of London
both hit 17 of the targets while
Ashley Gilbert of Goderich
and Jim East of Clinton hit 15.
Following them were Dale
Mish of Goderich, who hit 14,
;rnd Jose Kenda of Zurich and
Dan Meerburg of Forest who
shot 1.3 skeets.

nament held in Zurich Saturday Were the Clinton Bluebirds
and after a full day of playing ball, they are a happy crew.

Bluebirds win Zurich tournament
On Saturday the Clinton
Bluebirds fast ball team
emerged the victors in the
Zurich Men's Invitational
Fastball Tournament.
The Clinton entry started
the day against the Lucan
Irish 9 who wdre the tourney
favourites. Lucan's starting
pitcher was hit out of the
game when in the third inning,
Doc Miller hit a home run.
Then in the next inning, the
Bird bats hit for two more
runs. LuCan scored two runs
in the fifth and that is the way
it ended Bluebirds 3, Lucan
Irish 9, 2.
The next game was against
the host team, Zurich. This,
the semi finals for the day
long tournament ended up the
Bluebirds 5, Zurich 3. Doc
Miller and Ray Nicholas put
Fiming Fliers lose luck
On Augst 17, the Fleming
Flyers travelled to* St.
Columban and lost 3-2, but
played like champs as the
play was at the other end 90
percent of the time. They hit
the goal post five times and
missed a • penalty shot but
passed like pros.
Scoring were Sean Van
Dongen and David Allan.
Stars were the whole team as
the fans who saw the game,
must agree.
On Tuesday. August 23,
Exeter came to town and
were sent home after being
defeated 11-1 by the hot
Fleming Flyers. The boys
played strong and steady and
Exeter tried to play defen-
sively bet to no avail.,
• Scoring were David Allan
with three. Brad Hymers and
Jim Fleming each with two.
Brad Forbes. Scott Bell, Jeff
Celclough and David Elliott
each with one.
Stars were Brad Hymers,
David Allan and Jeff
Colclough
Next Monday night is the
last game for the Flyers and
the players hope to see some
of the parents who.have never
been to a game. come out and
watch their sons and see how
they have improved.
The draw for the peaches
was Monday night and first
prize went to Janice Allan;
second prize, Edna Jeffrey
and. third, Ian Fleming.
We sincerely thank .all who

sixth inning- to put the ' game
away for the Bluebirds.
The final game was set to
be a classic battle against the
Walton Bali Club. They
showed their strength and
ability defeating Goderich 9-0
in their semi final contest.
At 9:45 p.m. the final game
began, 10:30 came and the
tournament was over. The
1976 champions were
received. the Clinton
Bluebirds. The final score 1-
0!
The single score came
when Bas O'Brien took one on
the arm forthe team and
Robert "Doc" Miller hit a
double. scoring O'Brien from
first base off Walton starter
Gary Bennett.
Ray Nicholas was out-
standing for the Bluebirds all
day. Nicholas pitched the
entire three games for the
Birds. allowing only nine hits
-in the entire tournament and
only five runs.
The Zurich tourney officials
showed their recognition of
Nicholas's fastball expertice
throughout the day , by
awarding him the MVP of the
day. Ray received a picnic
table as his trophy for the
day.
Bluebird manager Jim
Switzer. when asked about
the tournament, said his team
played a long day. but played
with determination and felt
the Zurich officials—rail an
exciting. efficient tour-
nament.
Squirts host
soccer tourney
The Clinton Squirts Soccer
team have finished their
regular season of play and
will be hosting a tournament
on Saturday- Teams par-
ticipating in the tournament
will be from Exeter. Seaforth,
Goderich and Clinton.
The day will begin at 9:30
Saturday morning and all are
invited to attend and see
which team will become the
Huron Squirt Champions.
