The horse responsible for the fast mile was Tar Daw Duke, owned by Larry Da v, Clinton and Claude Daw, Mississauga, with driver Dennis Jewitt, who was in frorit until the stretch but had to settle fors secpnd. Both, these horses are three -year- olds who have been racing in the Ontario Sires Stakes. Dilly Dares finished third for owner Wayne Horner of Brucefield with driver Larry De Caluwe. At Elmira on Monday night, Flame Messenger, owned by Evelyn Rapson of Holmesville, was fourth with Bill driving. G. D. Direct was third for driver John Muir for Dave Muir of Seaforth. This gives him three wins, one second and one third from seven starts this year. Leahaven Red was fourth for Bill Caldwell of Clinton. One of the things that adds a lot of class to the Clinton Raceway and puts it a notch above the other "8" tracks in the area Is an outrider who parades the horses to the post and keeps an eye on them when they're starting.
