Huron Flyers may go
to Bordon Cup playoffs
Rain di'i not hamper the
Huron Midget Soccer
Association's all-star team
and they came up with
another fine win against the
London team; Stoneybrook,
with the final score, 3-2.
With a 3 to 0 record and a
maximum of six points and
with a goal tally of 14 for and
two against, this should be
enough to put them into the
last 16 team play-off for the
Borden Cup, sponsored by the
Michigan Junior Soccer'
Association.
Starting the game in the
rain, the Flyers went straight
on the attack, and the
Stoneybrook goal had some
near misses before Dave
Murray from the St.
Columban team scored the
first goal. The goal came
from a goalmouth scramble.
The ball was headed off the
crossbar and posts three
times before Dave drove it
home.
The Flyers continued to
press and it was anotier Si.
Coitlmban player, Greg
Ryan, who added the second
goal. Soon after this. the
Huron Flyers went a bit off
their game and the
Stoneybrook team came back
with a goal just before the
half time was sounded.
They started the second
half the same way as they
finished the first p and
Stoneybrook koon tied the
score, 2-2. After the, goal, the
Flyers pulled themselves
together and got on track
again even though they had
lost Colin Alexander who
received a bang on the head.

Correction
Even though it would be
nice to see Clinton win all of

won their game in the
Langton tournament held
here on August 3.
In actuality it was the

won a game against the

Liquor ban-itLparks.
The Ministry of Natural
Resources is considering
banning alcohol in provincial
campgrounds to curb
'rowdyism, especially
amongst the young people.
An official from the
ministry said last week that
the amount of vandalism in
the -parks is on the rise and it
is felt that liquor is at the root
of the .problem. Last year,
there were • 6,780 people
evicted from provincial parks
for vandalism and theft.
Last year, 858,000 worth of
goods were stolen in Ontario's
provincial parks, sand the
figure is about 88,000 above
the previous year. Also about
831,000 worth of damages was
done to the parks last year,
which is 89,000 more than the
previous year.
Most of the blame rests on
the young people, according
to the ministry, and
especially on long weekends
when thousands of young
people flock to the parks.
While some parks like
Turkey Point on Lake Erie
have segregated young
campers from families, in
others it is impossible to do
this because of space
limitations. The ministry has
hired the OPP to patrol many
of the other parks.
The ministry is now
looking at other ways to curb
the rowdiness and feel that a
total ban of alcohol may, not
be the solution to the
problem. Assistant Deputy
Minister A.J. Herridge said
that it wouldn't be fair to
families who bring in a bottle
of wine for a meal and have
no intentions of causing
trouble.
He also noted that the
ministry will be reluctant t
become involved in c
searches for booze.
The ministry plans to 1
over the Liquor Act to see
what can be done and checi
the park figures of vandalism
and evictions for the year
after Thanksgiving.
Our mistake
The old saying "alwa
read the signs" really shoal..:
be taken more seriously.
However signs can b
somewhat confusing as t
News -Record found out las
week when we ran a pictur
of "Ye Old Fire Hall"
Vanastra.
The sign, on the fire hall, 0
the supposed fire hall, i
merely to show that one
upon a time the former CF
lounge was used to house th
fire equipment. However
there is a "for sale" sign 1
one corner of the lot, and th
building is actually owned is
John Fraser. Signs, sign
everywhere signs!
