Playhouse shows Boyfriend
This week, the Huron
Country Playhouse in Grand
Bend, presents rts third
musical of _the 1976 season.
Sandy VAilson's The
Boyfriend was a hit when it
opened in London, and later
won similar - enthusiastic'
re otion on Broadway in 1954.
It is a witty, stylish cartoon
the 20's. The Boyfriend
kes place on the French
Riviera, where Polly, a
millionaire's daughter, is
attending Mme. Dubonnet's
fashionable finishing school.
She meets and falls in love.
with Tony. a delivery boy,
who later turns out to be the
wealthy son of Lord
Brockhur;t.
To hold his interest, Polly
pretends that she's a working
girl. and endless confusion
follows. Meanwhile, Polly's
father stops at the school for a
brief visit and rediscovers his
wartime sweetheart, MMe.
Dubonnet. After all the
misunderstandings are
sorted out, the couples are
reunited for the inevitable
happy ending.
The Boyfriend is a good-
jtumoured, tuneful and af-
fectionate tribute to the in-
nocence and high spirits of
the Charleston. cloche hat
and- -short skirt days. Hit
songs from this show include
"1 could be happy with you",
"Won't you Charleston with
me", and "It's never too late
to fall in love".
