(News -Record photo) Playhouse shows Boyfriend This week, the Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend, presents rts third musical of _the 1976 season. Sandy VAilson's The Boyfriend was a hit when it opened in London, and later won similar - enthusiastic' re otion on Broadway in 1954. It is a witty, stylish cartoon the 20's. The Boyfriend kes place on the French Riviera, where Polly, a millionaire's daughter, is attending Mme. Dubonnet's fashionable finishing school. She meets and falls in love. with Tony. a delivery boy, who later turns out to be the wealthy son of Lord Brockhur;t. To hold his interest, Polly pretends that she's a working girl. and endless confusion follows. Meanwhile, Polly's father stops at the school for a brief visit and rediscovers his wartime sweetheart, MMe. Dubonnet. After all the misunderstandings are sorted out, the couples are reunited for the inevitable happy ending. Miss Beauvais, who recreated this, role in the latest Rroadway revival of The Boyfriend, also played Mme. Dubonnet at New York's Cherry Lane Theatre for a two-year run, and has performed in several other Boyfriend productions in Illinois and Puerto Rico. She is, perhaps, best known to Playhouse audiences for her portrayal of Dolly Levi, in Dpsi year's smash hit Hello olly. Irma La Douce cast members returning to per- form in The Boyfriend in- clude David Dunbar, Robert Landar. Catherine Leckie, Peter Purvis and James Saar. Other roles will be taken by Teresa Castonguay and Marylu Moyer. -Playhouse Artistic Director James Murphy directs this production, with Musical Direction by Barbara Young and choreography by Bonnie Sandison.
