ISo by the superb acting: of
the seven -member cast:.
Ron Barry took the
limelight in the seriesof short
sketches and .excellently
portrayed many roles from
"Neill" the snare to crotchety
"Grampa Boyle". He was
well .supported by Jim
Schaefer who portrayed the
solid father figure and many
other roles including "Indian
Joe".
Between these actors, with
the support of the rest of the
cast, they brought alive the
wart'in and funny memories of
a farm family who went.
through such familiar tasks
as moving the wood stove in
for the winter, contending
with party line gossipers and
neighbourly quarrels over
religion and politics.
However along with the
humorous tales came the
tragic memories of the time.
Such touching stories as
Canadian boys going to fight
in the First World War to
return to the farm. physically
and mentally scarred and the
heartbreaking story of
Sammy the half-witted hired
man whose love for the widow
ended in tragedy, were
equally effective and brought
a hush over the audience of
405.
Theplay's emphasis was on
the lighter side of rural life of

The hard-working cast put
all their energies _ into the
opening performance and
each actor played out his and
her roles as believable local
characters. Angela Gel once
more showed her talents as a
fine actress in the ser
fbrmance of "Mother Boyle'.
She, like the rest of the cast

and had the audience roiling
on the floor in laughter as she
portrayed the prissy city
school teacher who was
horrified by the outhouse and
the terrible tricks of the Boyle
boys.
Excellent acting was also
shown by Sharon Noble,
Alfred Humphreys, who
narrated the vignettes. Steve
Thorne who helped adapt the
script with director James
Roy and young Mark Battye
as Harry. •
The cast proved their ac-
ting skill through im-
provisation, with the set
made .up of a nutuber'of bo.+)si
and tables. The time was set
with a rustic backdrop
composed of mementoes of
days.gone.by.
It was against this
background that the cast also
were engaged in fun musical
moments of a school concert,
a step dancing routine, a
ballad about the dry days of
the Temperance Act and a
satire on home cures and
spring tonic judging contests.
The play was accompanied
by the toe tapping music of
the orchestra. made up of
guitars, violins and banjoes
played•by Joe -Miller, Shelley
C. Smith and Jack Blum.
The sold -put performance
was one that well deserved its
approval from the audience
and greatly impressed Mr.
Boyle who saw it for the first
time. The play will be
repeated on July 22 and 30
and on August 7 and 9 with
curtain time at 8:30 p.m.
