It ought to be lovely to be old
to be full of the peace that comes of experience.
and wrinkled. ripe fulfilment.
The wrinkled smile of completeness that follows a life
loved undaunted and unsoured with accepted lies.
If people lived without accepting hes
they would ripen like apples, and be scented like
pippins in their old age.
Soothing. old people should be, like apples
when one is tired of love.
Fragrant like yellowing leaves, and dim with the soft
-stillness and satisfaction of autumn.
Anda girl should'say:
It must be wonderful to live and grow old.
Look at my mother, how rich and still she is!
And a young man should think: By Jove
my father has faced all weathers,
but its been a life!

Wedding cake
an old tradition
The Romanwere among
the first to introduce the
use of cake at the cere-
mony. They broke their
salt - mealed cake- over
the bride's head at the
end of the rites, and the
crumbs were gathered by
guests as good -luck tokens
In 15th century England
wedding guests brought.
small cakes and put them
in the center of the table.
Usually this created quite
a pile. The bride and
groom then tried. to reach
_across the pile of dikes
and to kiss. without knock-
ing the pile over.
Later. in France, atrav-
cling baker conceived the
idea of icing all the small
cakes together into• one
large impressive cake .
thus, we have today the
tiered wedding cake.
Toda. the ratercr may
not be designated to make
the wedding cake. Fre-
iluently the bride, some-
times with her maids and,
or their families. bake the
cake and the good things
just a few days before the
wedding. This has taken
its place among the pleas-
ant pre -nuptial traditions
which many young people
enjoy.
Making your own wed-
ding cake? Many brides
do! Consultants suggest
you add garlands, stars,
roses. and -other pretty
things " from the pastry
tube, then perhaps add
doves and cupids. or sym-
bols of your own lifestyle
and beliefs. Whatever the
creation, be sure to freeze
the topt layer to eat on
the occasion of your first ,
