The Pioneer Park Association
. was formed for Itttz purpose of
preserving as a public park the
area "where it all began" - in
other words, where the first
building in Bayfield. Riley's
boarding-house, was erected.
Lucy Woods, Jessie Metcalf.
Jack Stewart and Gordon
Galbraith put up th& money to
buy the lets in 1947 and then the
Association.came into being with
lite memberships of $25 each. The
first president was Lucy Woods
and. in 1976. is Dr. Morgan Smith.
As a Centennial project in 1967,
the landscaping was completed
and, over the years. valiant ef-
forts have, been put forth to.
prevent erosion i.e. piles in the'
lake. drainage tiles, and, lastfaf.
gabions. But each year more of
the land is lost and -those who
enjoy the sunsets have to -sit just
a little farther back.
The annual Rummage Sale.
initiated by Miss Rankin will saon
be here - the second Friday in
July - so all those, who have un=
needed articles (.sometimes
termed "white elephants") lying
around are urged to donate thein
to this worthy cause.
