Few residents in inland towns
and cities have any idea of the
dangers and losses in a fisher-
man's life.
During the winter months,
while ice -fishing there is the
danger of ice parting from shore;
nets are often lost and sometimes
men have narrow escapes.
In the summer. long trips are
made on the lake; .early starts
are made and often when winds
are unfavourable — with often a
very late return.
Nets are much damaged by
stormy weather and by logs. A
fisherman's life is far from easy
and profitable."
Fishermen like Chas. Dreser had
to be sure that their nets were in
good condition in the early MO's.
Sailboats were used by fishermen
like Murdoch Floss in the late
