June 24, 1849 as the first Register
of Trinity Church records the
baptism of Mary Ching, infant
daughter of Edward and Mary
Templeton, Stanley Township,
school master. .
The building was 20' x 30' with a
cottage roof, plastered to the
ceiling. Here many of the older
boys and girls received their
education. In turn, many of them
became teachers. Since in the
early days all members of the
family river€ needed to earn a
living -- winter registration was
high, but low in better months.
Thi seats in those days would
be handmade stools and benches,
with perhaps a table for thy
teacher.
Later the school served as
Town Hall, then Church.
By 1859. the log school was
summer of 1863. a one storey
building without a balemrt.
In 1873Vi ri n" tr mhs A. Gair-
dener was secretary, an ad-
ditional room was added to the
back.
With griming attendance, a
second storey was added to the
older brick part in 1892. There
were three teachers for a time,
and pupils sat three. to a seat,
meant only for two.
A hole was dug under the school
and a hot air furnace/installed to
take the place of the big old iron
box stoves.
In 1955. a new trend to cen-
tralize schools came into being
and a new school was built. At
that time it was referred to as a
model for other schools boards
intending to build. Classes began
