South Shore Marina has really expanded In 1971, Bill Elliott, a one time resident of Bayfield and son of Lulu Elliott and the late George Elliott who were storekeepers. along with his cou,in Bill Carson. purchased part of the Old Mill property at the southwest corner of the bridge on Highway 21. from Elwood Epps, with the view of constructing a Marina. The main dredging for the lagoon was done in 1972 and annual improvements have been added. Today the Marina has slips for some 90 sail and power boats (under 25 feet) and dry berthing for a further dozen. A canoe rack for six canoes is also available. A launching ramp (the only one in the Bayfield River) and parking for 50 cars completes the facility. Besides renting slips or berths for the season or shorter periods. the Marina has rental boats, four canoes, two fishing boats, with or without four horsepower motors and a 15 -foot ski boat with a 35 - horsepower motor. Gordon Peddle was student minister. • In 1931 they, erected a brick church on the site of the former King Bakery, burned in the fire of 1922, the corner stone being laid on June 11th, by Mr. George Stanbary of Exeter. Deducatlon services were held on June 10th. with Rev. J. B. Rhodes. Moderator of the Presbytery in charge. Rev. Ernest Pollock, Russel Heard, Douglas Armstrong, These earnest, enthusiatic student ministers have been doing fine work. holding services in local trailer camps. trying to reach the young folks, and lifting everyone's spirits with their warm smiles and cheery dispositions.
