Missing was Director Harvey Carter. (News -Record photo) Snell reunion held The 45th annual Snell reunion was held in Lon-' desbor9 on Saturday. June 19 with 60 members in at- tendance. The morning was dull and wet but the sun shone in the afternoon and a good program of sports was held. A bountiful smorgasbord meal was enjoyed and president Harry Snell welcomed everyone. Lisa ' Bosman ' sang two numbers accompanied by her rnoiher. Ann Snell sang a solo, "Bonnie Jean". Grant Snell and Robert Welsh pleased all with a Lew ,r' .0.S/tat/LI a vat lire 11 % whits, Helmer Snell and Don Snell played some good old fashioned music on rtheir violins. Rev. Harold Snell displayed the Snell Crest from Barn- staple, Devonshire England, and took orders for them. Don Snell spoke on memories and composed a verse in poetry on the steam engines on the old Huron -Bruce Railroad. Marian Snell was holding the lucky cup and Laura Forbes had the oldest car. The youngest Snell was two -month-old Wesley, son of Ted and Lynne Snell of Waterloo. The couple was also named as having the largest family. Persons coming- the longest distance to the reunion were Ed Cornish and Catherine Hyland from Toronto and Eva Walker of Belgrave was nathed the person With her birthday closest to the t'eunion. Barbara Keys, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Keys of Varna, graduated on June 9 from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and psychology. This renewable scholarship of 51,200 is awarded annually by the Corporation of Huron College to the three students who have attained the highest first-class standing in Year 5 (Grade 13) level. subjects, and has a possible total value of 54,800. Miss Webster will enter the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Huron College, an affiliate of the University of Western Ontario, in Sep- tember. Her sister, Cheryl received this scholarship last year. New mail rules The Canada Post Office is installing automatic mail ,processing and sorting equipment in important postal centres throughout Canada. In order to insure that the machines will run with as little disruption as possible. the following regulations have been ef- fected. All. envelopes or self - mailers posted as first class mail after June 30th must be completely sealed. After June 30th any en- velope containing second class mail and which does not exceed six inches in width. 10 inches in length, 1/, inch in thickness, or two ounces in weight must . be completely seated. All envelopes or self - mailers posted as domestic third class mail after June 30th must be completely sealed. This includes Christmas cards. These new regulations authorize the post office to ret urn to the sender unsealed items and open window en- velopes found in the mail. In addition. if no return address is on the envelope. other means for disposal- are authorized. The . mutation changes introduced are intended to protect mail and prevent delay or damage so that customers may obtain the full advantage of the postal services Local obituaries Frederick McTaggert A native of Ciir.ton, Frederick Gordon McTaggert, 70, died Tuesday June 15 after a 10 month illness. Mr. McTaggert was the president of Culligan West Toronto Ltd. He- had a long career in government, in the armed services and in private finance before 1951 when he took out the third Canadian franchise for the Culligan company. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1929 in commerce and finance and joined the Woody Gundy investment firm. He managed its Hamilton office. then was sent to Shanghai and Hong Kong as its represen- tative there. After five years, he returned to Toronto and worked for the Nesbitt - Thomson firm until World War .II. He was a lieutenant in the Queen's 'Own Rifles and .later became a group captrein in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was stationed in England for three years and was commander of the basic accounts division and , ac- counted for all Canadian armed service expenditures in Britain. He went to Calgary after the war to head the depart- ment of veteran's affairs in Alberta and' tater was assistant to the minister of veterans' affairs in Ottawa ,beforo movingtin (*Culligan. Auburn. died June 17 in Alexandra Marine and General • Hospital, after an illness of about three weeks. He was 75. He was born February 4, 1901 in Auburn, to Charles and Susannah (Johnston ) Beadle. He lived in Auburn all his life except for about. 10 years when he worked at the Ford Motor Com pastor in Detroit. He owned a butcher shop in Auburn. He is -survived by his wife. the forMer lona Fowler whom he married December 30. 1925; three daughters. Mrs. Gordon (De,lores 'Dolly') Miller, Auburn; Mrs. Gordon (June) Mohring. Goderich: and Hiss Carol Beadle. Kitchener:- one son. Gordon (Sam) Beadle, 'Auburn; six grandchildren and four gteat- grandchildren: one sister. Mrs. Earl (Ellen) Allison, Goderich ; and one - brother. Charles, Auburn. - He was predeceased by one 'brother. Harold Maitland Beadle. Funeral service was Saturday. ,June 19 at Stiles Funeral Home with the Rev. Alfred Fry officiating. Interment .was in Ball's Cemetery, Auburn. Pallbearers were Eugene Ryan. Douglas Mohring, James Mohring. Ronald Elliott, Douglas Stoll and Dan Fowler. Flower bearers were Gordon Powell and Fred Seers.
