promotions are beginning this
week in Blyth, the Blyth
Standard related last week.
for that town's Centennial
Celebrations to be held next
year: The Leo Club. a youth
division of the Lions club, will
be handling sales of bumper
stickers.
The Standard also reported
that one of the big headaches
of the Blyth Summer Festival
will be finding ac-
commodation for the actors
and the deluge of visitors
expected at the Festival,
which is still a monthoff.
According to the Zurich
Citizens News of last week.
the annual .Friedsburg Days
planned for July 30 and 31 in
that village will be bigger and
better than ever. As well as
the parade on Saturday.
billed as one of the biggest in
Western Ontario. a soap box
derby, pet show and
sauerkraut and sausages will
also be offered.
The Citizens News also
reported that the Grand Bend
Council' has voted to give
Zurich SI.000 for their arena.
In order to cut 55,000 from
their budget, the Goderich
Recreation board cut several

Goderich Signal -Star
reported last week. Among
those to feel the knife was the
annual Santa Claus parade,
and the minor hockey. soccer
and figure skating clubs.
The Signal -Star also
reported that 250 Goderich
high school students run 10
km recently to try and raise
54,000 towards the cost of a
new track at the school. The
all-weather. synthetic track
could cost 880,000.
Wingham residents and
town councillors have
decided to renovate the old
arena, the Wingham
Advance -Times reported last
week. Of about. 570
questionnaires returned, 49.9
percent want the arena
renovated at an estimated
cost of 5200.00. compared to
an estimated cost of 5650.000
fora new arena. About 550.000
will be raised from taxes and
the rest will come from
government grants. The
arena was condemned by the
provincial government.

Colin Finglan of Wingham
marked their 60th wedding

Times -Advocate of last week.
hydro rates in that town will
jump 6.7 percent in July. PUC
chairman Ted Pooley said
Ontario Hydro may raise the
rates some 28 percent more
by the end of the year.

The Dashwood bridge club
is a persistent group. judging

The Clinton police reported
only one accident this week,
which occurred on Sunday,
June6.
Over 51,600 worth of
damages to vehicles owned
by James Livingstone. 18 of
34 Edmonton Rd., Vanastra
and John H. Rueger, 35. of 18
Walker St.. Clinton were
incurred when the two
vehicles collided on Huron St.
In Clinton Provincial Court
last Wednesday six people
were convicted and fined for
various charges.
Douglas L. Popp was fined
578 for creating unnecessary
noise. Lionel .John Stanley
was charged for having open
liquor and was fined 553 and
Daniel P. Darrell was also
found guilty on a similar
charge and fined 528.
Allan W. Empey was fined
528 as a result of being in-
toxicated in a public place.
Edward Gloor, also found
guilty of being intoxicated in
a public place, was fined 528.
David J. Ashley was fined 513
for speeding.
