THE
Frozen Foods—,
Store With Care;
One of the wisest investments a consumer can
make these days is a refrigerator and freezer ,
thermometer. Generally, as temperature in-
creases, the life of frozen foods decreases. It's
important to know what temperature your
freezer registers.
• Foods held in the ice cube section of ,a
regular, one -door refrigerator should be used
within at few days since the temperature may
average between 15°F and 20°F and thawing
will occur with some frozen items.
• Foods stored in the frozen food campart-
ment of a regular. one -door refrigerator should
be used and rotated within several weeks. This
temperature may average between 10°F and
.15°F.
• The freezer compartment of a fro -door
combination refrigerator freezer should main-
tain a temperature range froze below 0°F to
8°F. At these temperatures, nutrients_ and
quality should be retained for several months.
• A separate freezer, whether chest or upright,
should maintain foods at 0°F or lower. Under
these conditions, you can count on the quality
of frozen foods stored up to one year.
You can test the temperature of your freezer
with a refrigerator/freezer thermometer. Leave
it in the freezer overnight without opening the
door. If the reading is about zero, adjust the
temperature control of your freezer to bring it
as close to zero as possible.
