Soccer club salvages tie
By Rosemary Armstrong
The Clinton Soccer Club
picked up another point on
Saturday, June 5 when the
team tied 3-3 with London
Portuguese in London.
Clinton, with a few
positional changes and
newcomer Tony Van Dongen
in the lineup, never gave up in
an evenly matched game.
Halftime saw no goals
scored, but after the interval
Clinton thought the sky had
fallen. The Portuguese scored
three goals in 20 minutes
which might have put the
game out of reach for a lesser
team than Clinton.
The local boys took heart

runners-up.
This WOAA tournament
was arranged in 1972 by the
late "Red" Henry of Cargill
and initially was held to
accommodate those pee wee
clubs who had been
eliminated from the OBA
play-offs. Because of this,
Red decided to, "Give our
boys a little extra baseball so

loser did in fact have a

the post, and Clinton had to
wait until nearly full-time
before Victor Kennedy,
through sheer determination,
scored the equalizer.
Alex Harrett and Bill
Cantelon were outstanding,
once again, for Clinton, while
every other player worked
extremely hard to salvage a
valuable point.
Clinton will host league
leading Stratford on Satur-

The late Mr. Henry set
some examples with his team.
by ensuring, that all his boys
played in every • game and
that nobody sat on the bench.
He was quick to retaliate to
anyone who felt that he was ill"
treating his team, and in fact
he was sure that every boy on
his team had equal op-
portunities. Along with ap-
plying the fundamentals of
the game, he encouraged
discipline, honesty and fair
play.

The Clinton Juvenile
aseball team has moved up
uniors and in their first
game against the Crediton
Juniors came away winners
by 25-6.
Clinton played a powerful
game with Crediton as a
threat only in the first inning.
Crediton got four runs in
the first inning however
pitcher Mark Nicholson
settled down after the first
and threw strong, striking out
10 until he was relieved by
Dave Bartiiff in the sixth
inning, who gave only one hit
and struck out five players.
Dean Ryan finished the game
for Clinton and allowed only
one run one hit and striking
out one batter.
Don MacDonald had five
hits in six at bats, 'and Dan
Colquhoun went three for five

when they host a much
stronger Crediton Juvenile
Club.
Mosquitos nip Seaforth
On Monday evening; the
Clinton Fleming Flyers
played a fast scoring game to
defeat the strong Seaforth
team 7-3.
The Flyers opened the
game with a goal by Brad
Forbes in the • first five
minutes of play. After that,
they had no trouble keeping
Seaforth out of the net and
finished the first half leading
5-1.
In the final half, Jim
Fleming played a strong
defence and at times looked
more like a ballet dancer with
his fancy moves and faked
intentions, confusing the
opposition completly. Scott
Bell also played a strong
game as he scored two goals.
Stars of the game were;
"White Lightning," Scott
Bell; 'Super Dude," Jim
Fleming ; and "Muscle Man,"
Wayne Roorda.
Scoring were Brad Forbes,
Chris Ladd and David Elliott
with one goal apiece and Sean
Van Dongen ,and Scott Bell
with two each.
