Anti -seat belt advocate
I use the argument that safet

the car catches on fire or goe
under water. Facts hav
proven that fire and stt
mersion are a factor in les
than one percent of injury
producing accidents. E ve
then, the protection from
injury provided by safet
belts, increases your chance
of escaping. It takes less than
a second to release the belt.

are even stricter with
themselves than adults would
be."
"It works!" Chris states
emphatically.
The program in Goderich
has been so successful that
the CAS board has given
approval 'for two more such
homes to be opened in the
county - one for boys and one
for girls. The location
depends on the availability of
accommodation, Chris says.
Finally. the Youth Services
Department is endeavouring
to work with the police and
the schools in the county.
"We're trying to get our act
together, explains Chris.
"Generally there's good co-
operation - extremely good.
But some things need to be
ironed out, sorted out. These
are the things we're trying to
get done."
As well as police and
schools needing to fully un-
derstand the Youth Services
Department's efforts,
community understanding
and acceptance is vitally
important.
"It is helpful when the
community believes in
teenagers," commented
Chris.
