We are very sorry to hear
that Rev. Alex Taylor took ill
while at Pine Lake. Camp on
Saturday and is in Clinton
hospital.
Rev. John Campbell of
London, a minister of the
Latter Day Saints Church and
a friend of Mr. Taylor, took
the church services at Varna
and Goshen on Sunday. We
hope Rev. Taylor is well
again very soon.
Members of the Board of
Stewards of Varna Church
are reshingling the roof over
the choir loft. They are also
busy with the ticket sales for
the Pork Barbecue on June
IS, and report tickets are
selling well.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Consitt
surprised Mr. and Mrs. Barry
Taylor with a family party for
their wedding anniversary.

15 umpires.
Schedules will be drawn up
soon after the June 2 meeting
at Holmesville for area
townships. Once schedules
are drawn up umpires will be
called to a coach -umpire
meeting to schedule umpiring
and establish ground rules.
Plans are underway to
build a storage shed for
storage of bases. lime. minor
league. umpire equipment,
etc. The committee is pleased
that tickets are selling so well
on the draw. The proceeds
from this will assist them to
buy equipment.
Fred and Laura Lawrence
have agreed to handle the
booking of the diamond and
after June 4, Rick Ferguson is
to take care of collecting
tickets and money from the
coaches who are taking care

The minutes of the previous
meeting were accepted as
read by the secretary, Mrs.
Donald Haines. Plans were
made for the Huronview
Birthday party on June 16th
and it is hoped that women in
the community will come and
help with this event.
A program is to be
presented and the Birthday
cake passed with tea.
Delegates to the District
annual of Huron West District
which is to be held in Auburn
on May 26th were appointed.
They are Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt, Mrs. Eleanor
Bradnock, Mrs. Beth Lansing
and Mrs. Frank Raithby. The
flowers are to benrranged by
Mrs. Ed Davies and Mrs.
Thomas Lawlor.
The card report was given
by Mrs. Andrew Kirkcontiell
and she read the thank you
notes she had, received. The
financial statement was
accepted as given by the
treasurer, Mrs. Donald
Haines.
Roll call was answered by
each member giving a
current event. The new
programs were given out and
the collection was taken by
Jayne Arthur and Faye
Seers. Prizes were won by
Mrs. Kenneth McDougall and
Christine Stadelmann.

The Auburn Women's
Institute held its May
meeting in the Auburn
community Memorial hall
last Tuesday evening with the
president, Mrs. Eleanor
Bradnock in the chair. Mrs.
Catherine Jackson was
pianist.
Mrs. Bradnock welcomed
the Auburn 1 and Auburn 2 411
clubs, their mothers and
• other guests. The motto,
Learn to do by doing (the 411
motto) was taken by Mrs.
Wilfred Sanderson.

exhibit when Kim McDowell
will be commentator. A piano

Local obituary
Cerlel Jacob Van Damnie
Ceriel Jacob Van Damme
of Ontario Street, Clinton died
suddenly Sunday, May 23. He
was 76.
The son of Caroline
Bruggerman and Eugeniaus
Van Damme, he was born
September 26, 1899 in the
Netherlands.
Mr. Van Damme lived in
the Netherlands until about
1926 and then moved to
Wallaceburg until 1947. He
has lived in Clinton ever
since.
He was a hospital orderly
during World War One in the
Netherlands. After coming to
Canada he took up farming
and business.
Mr. Van Damme married
Rose Brown in Wallaceburg,
Ontario, November 26, 1946
and the couple took up
residence in Wallaceburg„
Wilkesport and Clinton.
He owned the Commercial
Hotel, Clinton for almost 20
years and then converted and
restored Clinton's old public
school on Ontario Street into
apartments for retired
people. He was also a
member of the United Church'
of Canada.
Surviving Mr. Van Demme
besides "his wife is one son,
Paul Hartley Van Demme of
Clinton.
Also surviving are three
brothers, Edward, Pearce
and Joseph, and one sister,
Rose DeTheye. all of the
Netherlands. '
-'The funeral was held
Wednesday, May 26, 1976, at
the Ball Funeral Home,
Clinton with Rev. Lewis of-
ficiating. Interment followed
at the Clinton cemetery.
Pallbearers were George
and John Lavis, Walter
Forbes and Lorne Garrow,
Clinton; Glen Eckmier,
Goderich and Frank Maucus,
Wallaceburg.
