We did - last Saturday afternoon - and very graciously in action. At the Open House of the new police office in Clinton Mrs. Dawna Westlake. Mrs. Rosemary Armstrong. Mrs. Susan McFadden, and Mrs. Darlene Weir welcomed visitors while dispensing coffee and goodies instead of the traffic tickets usually being handed out by their better quarters. Although not present. a welcome nevertheless to Mrs. Elaine Shropshall. the newest wife on the force. +++ White visiting in Lambeth last Tuesday. Mrs. Blanche Deeves of RR 3, Clinton called in at the local newspaper office of that village. In exchange for our greetings, she brought back those from Mrs. Seaton of the Lambeth News -Star. The warning came this week from Western- Region's Electrical Inspection Superintendent. Howard Lush. in London. Recently. an electrical contractor in London was taken to court where he was found guilty of seven violations of the Power Corporation Act. The provincial court levied fines totalling more than $500. "This example is a warning to anyone who violates the electrical "This example is a warning to anyone who violates the electrical- code," added Mr. Lush. "The public can protect itself by insisting on seeing the electrical inspection certificate of approval before paying for the work." "The purpose of our in- spection is to ensure. as far as possible. the safety of life and property from electrical hazards, said Mr. Lush. "The majority of con- tractors are most co- operative," Mr. Lush noted. "Although we don't like to take court action. we do as a last resort." Last year, 12 inspectors in the London district office (covering 3.000 square miles) made 36.500 inspections on 17.400 permits. Forest cover helps reduce run-off and controls soil erosion by wind or water. Forested areas also improve wildlife habitat and enhance the aesthetic beauty of the lan- .;adapt. More assistance than ever before is now available to landowners for planning and establishing this new forest crop. The Ministry of Natural Resources provides a free tree planting service for all landowners willing to have 10 acres or more of suitable land plrnted to trees;. Under this program the Ministry will, free of charge. inspect the property 4u be planted, consider the objectives of the landowner, offer advice on the proper species to plant. and carry out the actual planting work. The landowner purchases the nursery stock at nomina-1 cost from the Ministry of Natural Resources nursery and assumes responsibility for protecting the young plantation from fire. livestock, insects and disease. Any Landowner interested in further details of this free service should contact the Wingham office of the Ministry .. of Natural Resources.
