Electrical contractors who
fail to get a permit for any
electrical work will ''be
prosecuted by Ontario Hydro.
The warning came this
week from Western- Region's
Electrical Inspection
Superintendent. Howard
Lush. in London.
Recently. an electrical
contractor in London was
taken to court where he was
found guilty of seven
violations of the Power
Corporation Act. The
provincial court levied fines
totalling more than $500.

"This example is a warning
to anyone who violates the
electrical- code," added Mr.
Lush. "The public can protect
itself by insisting on seeing
the electrical inspection
certificate of approval before
paying for the work."
"The purpose of our in-
spection is to ensure. as far as
possible. the safety of life and
property from electrical
hazards, said Mr. Lush.
"The majority of con-
tractors are most co-
operative," Mr. Lush noted.
"Although we don't like to
take court action. we do as a
last resort."
Last year, 12 inspectors in
the London district office
(covering 3.000 square miles)
made 36.500 inspections on
17.400 permits. Inspectors
give advice on electrical
safety as well as ensuring the
safety of installations.
Tre make good crop
Mashy &rttth4.. le.. Huron,
Bruce, awtlPs rtk: Counties
have some laid once ckoreol
and farmed ' but now idle
btcauie it is too steep or
rocky for cultivation, lacks
sufficient moisture or
nutrients, or is too small or
irregular in shape. Changing
methods of farming also have
resulted in many acres of
marginal farm land
becoming idle. Trees are a
crop which ran make these
idle l:,uds productive again.
Reforesting such areas is
important for many reasons
in addition to production of
lumber, fence posts.
fuelwood, and Christmas
trees.
Windbreaks or shelterbelts
enhance the beauty and
comfort of farm buildings and
protect field crops from
strong winds, Good woodlots
and shelterbelts increase the
sale value of a farm. Forest
cover helps reduce run-off
and controls soil erosion by
wind or water. Forested
areas also improve wildlife
habitat and enhance the
aesthetic beauty of the lan-
.;adapt.
More assistance than ever
before is now available to
landowners for planning and
establishing this new forest
crop. The Ministry of Natural
Resources provides a free
tree planting service for all
landowners willing to have 10
acres or more of suitable land
plrnted to trees;. Under this
program the Ministry will,
free of charge. inspect the
property 4u be planted,
consider the objectives of the
landowner, offer advice on
the proper species to plant.
and carry out the actual
planting work.
The landowner purchases
the nursery stock at nomina-1
cost from the Ministry of

for protecting the young
